Spent a couple years in Columbia in the '80's.

This is a beautiful natural area with paths & hiking trails. Not sure about a cliff/embankment. Rock Quarry Road takes you through a state park with some really beautiful areas. Caves that require a permit, too.

At the time, this was fairly close to the Vet School. I've worked horses quite a bit, at some times of the year it is common for veterinarians to clip fingernails extremely & painfully short to protect mares during pregnancy checks.

Ultrasound wasn't readily available in the '70's, manual checks were used to confirm a fetus in the mare's uterus.

Similar process for cows.

Shoulder-length loves are worn, but clipping the nails short protects the glove & the mare & the cow.

This gentleman may have been in the vet med or Agriculture program at MU?

I don't see an approximation of the address, but you can find Rock Quarry Road on the map, switch to Layers & see the trees that are still there today.
