Mystery of the Missing Fighter!

David Koenig Search Party

I know this area from vacationing .. I once went for a hike right behind the hotel-next thing I know Im a mile away and had to cut threw construction to get back to my hotel.. its wild country right off the pavement. Turns out it was a marked hiking trail I stumbled on right in Branson. I feel like this case just needs one crumb to send it in a cardinal direction for more crumbs. The problem with wild nature in cities is no hunters, or trappers go there due to city zoning and firearms dont mix, hikers have to stick to the trail for efficiency and sometimes the law. So that leaves alot of out of the way areas unchecked unless city or utility crew stumble onto something.

One year later the search for missing Branson man continues

A year ago today a Branson man seemed to have vanished.

Amateur mixed martial arts fighter, 26 year-old David Koenig has not been seen or heard from.

“I never thought it was going to go on this long. But now it’s even hard to see the end. We’re going to find him one way or the other.

We are not going to quit,” said his mother, Tracy Koenig.

His story is getting national attention from news media outlets.

Branson Police is still actively working the case.

Anniversary of Dave Koenig’s disappearance remembered with blue porch lights | KOLR - OzarksFirst.com

Monday, Feb. 8, is the first anniversary of Dave Koenig’s disappearance, a 26-year-old Branson amateur MMA fighter.

People across the Ozarks and the country are putting up blue lights on their porch in hopes of Dave’s homecoming.

The night Dave went missing, he had messaged a couple of friends, thinking he might be in trouble. According to Dave’s mother, Tracy Koenig, Dave was friends with the Peachtree Inn owner in Branson, who gave him a place to stay that night.

Dave has been missing ever since his stay at the Peachtree Inn.

Details of Disappearance
Koenig was last seen in Branson, Missouri in February 2020. He stayed two days at the Peach Tree Inn. On February 8,, he texted some friends to ask for help, saying he was in trouble. He stopped at a friend's home in Merriam Woods on February 9, and was possibly seen in Forsythe, Missouri on February 11. He has never been heard from again. Koenig is a well known mixed martial arts (MMA) fighter in his hometown. Few details are available in his case.

So, he did check out of the Peach Tree Inn? They know for certain? Some places require you to formally check out. Some places you just pack up and go.
He was actually friends with the owner. I have been following this case off and on since it happened because I used to live in the Branson area. I can't remember ever seeing anything about him formally checking out. It seems like his disappearance was sudden, so my assumption is that he didn't check out, but it is also possible he may not have formally checked in either as a friend of the owner.

I'm trying to find some of the more detailed reporting on the case that I came across several months ago that may answer this more definitively but am drawing a blank. If I can find it, I will post it here.

Rooting for him to be okay out there. His mother sounds like a great, strong mother.
Speculation - Maybe he thinks he's protecting his family by staying away?
Although I don't know him, I would say, please contact your family in some way to let them know that you're okay. Let them figure out how to help you.
I hope he can find a safe way home.

and he went missing right before covid lockdowns. Just an odd time to go missing...

I feel foolish saying that. Like, is there ever not an odd time? sheesh. Just mean, people were staying in, staying away, doors to previously open places were locked... places you'd expect to have been busy were suddenly desolate.

Has the Peachtree been turned upside down? Should it be?

Looking at the area on Google Earth, if I were conducting a search, it would be in the wooded area between Frank Rea Blvd and Wildwood Dr to the river, and the river itself. Best time to search would be fall after a frost and early spring before everything turns green. A drone search would also be a good idea.

Since some time has passed, another option would be to scan the entire area with drone or aircraft mounted LiDar. The scan would show the ground and anything on it in detail. Once the scan is processed, the trees and shrubs can be removed and only the ground details are shown. Not sure if LE or the Family reads this thread. This would be my suggestion.
