Per Sheriff's stmt, Mon. night ~8:00pm, deputies responded to a 911 call from woman reporting her 23 y/o son was out of control, suicidal & trying to strike her. In talking w man & family, they determined he was suicidal & homicidal, but he surrendered a knife to them. When they tried to take him into custody to transport for a mental health eval at hosp, there was a physical struggle.

"The man got partial control of a deputy's gun, and it went off. Another deputy fired at the man, striking him."

The man was airlifted to a hospital and was reported to be in critical condition.

An update to article: per Sheriff's stmt, 23 y/o man surrendered the knife to a relative, before deputies arrived.
"One of the man's relatives was able to disarm the man before police arrived."

A clarification about man's taking gun from deputy's holster: ""While (the deputies were) attempting to handcuff him, he began to struggle and attempted to remove one of the officers' weapon," Boyer said. "He actually got the gun out of the holster and the weapon discharged."" bbm
