Skeletal remains found near gas station in east Kansas City, police say

Police located the remains behind a fence on the east side of a gas station, said Captain Leslie Foreman, a spokeswoman with KCPD.

Skeletal remains were found in east Kansas City Monday night, according to the Kansas City Police Department.

Police were dispatched just before 10 p.m. to the 3000 block of Van Brunt Boulevard after a caller walking their dog saw what they believed to be a dead body.

Circumstances of Disappearance:
18-year-old Desirea Ferris left her home in Liberty, Missouri on May 1st, 2017. She had planned on hanging out with her sister and some friends. It was also her mom’s birthday and she had promised to be home to celebrate but that never happened.

The activity on Desirea’s phone stopped in the early morning hours of May 2nd and her family hasn’t seen or heard from her since. They have been able to narrow down the areas of her last cell phone pings but searches of those areas haven’t lead to any clues. There are some horrible rumors circulating about what happened to Desirea that night but no one will talk about where she might be.

I have seen one previous thread started for this girl back in 2017 when she originally went missing. Desirea Ferris is still missing as of today. I feel compelled to make this post after going through the Doe Network and not even seeing her listed as a missing person in this state. I went to school with Desirea and something about this case just doesn't sit right with me. When she went missing it was easy to assume that maybe she had a long night, possibly doing things that she shouldn't have been doing and that she would return home soon. This however, was not the case. She was known to be hanging around 2 older men in the Kansas City area, messaged her mom that she would be home soon and then radio silence.

Pings from her cell phone’s signal to area cell towers tell investigators that.

The last three pings came on May 2. The first is between 1 and 2 a.m. near east 75th Street and Prospect Avenue in Kansas City. Then a second between 2 and 3 am near East 43rd Street and Washington Avenue in Independence. A third ping went out at 4 a.m., back in Kansas City near east 83rd Street and Hillcrest.

Then nothing, her phone dies. "

Desirea Ferris still missing 8 years later despite searches, tips, and public interest

May 1 marks eight years since Desirea Ferris' family saw her. Despite extensive searches, public interest, and hundreds of tips, police still do not know her whereabouts.

These are the names of the men known to have been with her the day/night she disappeared: Robert Jason Keegan on May 1. He dropped her off at a house in Kansas City's Marlborough neighborhood where Mark Arzola lived.

I don't know if there is anything that anyone can do to help but I want to keep this girl relevant with hopes that someday someone will have answers for her friends and family.
