If I heard correctly, the grand jury is already in progress. I think that is what they said on KRCG 13

Is that the process in Missouri? I would think in these circumstances, where there's already been a charge/petition in juvenile court, they wouldn't need an indictment and would just use a felony complaint and arraign her on the information of the prosecutor.

Looking through all those pictures on the photobucket account, RP is the supposed boyfriend of Alyssa, right? Who is KNP? I saw her account page but I don't know who she is. Is she the sis-in-law of RP? Also - is KNP the one who wrote the journal entry about Alyssa saying how ticked off she was that Alyssa was wearing a dress of hers?

I couldn't figure out who was the author of that entry.

RP is the husband of KNP who is AB's aunt.

Her attorney, Kurt Valentine, never once tried to imply that she was innocent. He referred several times to the "acts she committed".

His only "defense" was that "you can't put a 15 year old girl in Dept of Corrections, they won't know what to do with her" and that we don't know that she "can't be rehabilitated in five years, it may be possible and we have to try".

He said that charging her as an adult is giving her a death sentence (which would be fine with me!) because she won't be adequately protected in the Cole County Jail or in DOC (cry me a river!).

He also said that she has tried to commit suicide since her time in Prenger, by ...... cutting herself with her fingernails. (now who thinks that was a serious attempt???)

He said that even though Alyssa has had almost DAILY counseling sessions since September 2007, if we just kept her in treatment at the youth center then maybe the counseling would work before she was 21 because "you can't just throw away a child because of the crime they committed".

blah, blah, blah.

thanks jodibug for all the updates and being boots on the ground. What her atty said above just goes to show how open and shut the trial will be. There is no defense for her actions. She premeditated it, acknowledged it, and will pay for it as an adult. (thank God) There is no rehabilitation for evil.

I think grand juries are a choice by prosecutors. I remember it being something brought up at the election of this prosecutor. Grand jury wasn't used by previous prosecutor. There is the old saying, "you can indict a ham sandwich" I think if there is a trial, the jurors may use it as something to say guilty.

The journal entry you are referring to was written by KNP, who is AB's aunt.

I know it is a complete guess on my part, but AB's 6 year old little sister was the first thing I thought of. I remember someone posting that AB sent her home. Perhaps she had 2nd thoughts concerning her own blood relative.

I think it would be made public, plus prosecutor may make a statement.
