*I feel like a dork*

It is only noon here... I live an hour away and for some reason was thinking the arraignment would be EST... I did find a live link (when it is time):
http://www.connectmidmissouri.com/
The live banner is no longer up.. but just before my computer belched (a big belch I might add! I had to reboot!) I was watching a live update and the reporters said that after she was arrested and the body was found she was trying to cut herself with her own fingernails and LE had to clip them off for her to stop cutting herself!

OMG..I feel like a dork too, been focused so much on the case with Shaniya that I forget I am going across a time zone..

I don't fault Kurt Valentine for not saying much. What is there to say? If she confessed to the detective, there's no point in denying it- that would just force the prosecutor to talk about physical evidence, which would be very harmful for Alyssa.

Also hearing she has been receiving daily counseling since 2007, its kind of hard to argue for rehabilitation/leniency. If daily counseling for 2 years plus all the luxuries of her grandparent's house didn't prevent this horrific crime, its really hard to argue more counseling in a jail is going to prevent her from doing it again in 5 years.

Its really sick that she didn't even have an excuse. Who just wakes up one day and decides to kill someone for no reason? Don't these people think two steps ahead..?

That can be tricky around WS, can't it?

Anyone know if AB was ever diagnosed as being bi-polar.. I do know if left untreated it can escalate to Paranoid schizophrenia

  • #348
Does anyone have any input about the pros & cons of AB pleading guilty or not guilty? If she confessed to the crime, can she even plea not guilty, unless it is with "diminished capacity" or some other mental illness reason?
Thanks

Unless her atty brings it up, I doubt we'll know for sure. HIPPA rules are some of the strictest in the land.

I'd be surprised if she is bi-polar. I'm leaning more towards a dx of RAD - which is an Attachment Disorder. I had a step-son with that dx and am familiar with the symptoms. It is a skeeery one.

W8Nc, Jodibug and Steph

Thank you for being our eyes on the ground and providing such good updates. Steph's an awesome sister to make sure the info got posted Jodi.

Glad Jodibug and W8Nc got a chance to meet...although under such terrible conditions.

Now I know that I'll never get any work done...I've got to get on a 12 step program to stop WSing while at work...LOL

I am glad that the wheels of justice for Elizabeth have started turning...but so very, very sad that any of this happened.

Prayers for Elizabeth's family friends and loved ones and for the community of JC.

Bustamante has an armed criminal action charge on her also. She committed murder by strangling, cutting the throat of Eo. That from grand jury

Actually she Did think 2 steps ahead, digging 2 graves on Fri, and still carrying out her plans the next week, is the scary part to me...definite premeditation there.

6 min ago - Indictment: Girl was stabbed, her throat cut

Court documents released Wednesday show that 9-year-old Elizabeth Olten was stabbed and her throat was cut. Earlier, a judge ruled that the 15-year-old girl charged with the crime should stand trial as an adult. Alyssa Bustamante is charged with first-degree murder and armed criminal action in the case. Elizabeth went missing in late October and was later found dead.

well all the early rumors continue to ring true don't they? I am sick...

So now we know. Poor baby girl. This case makes me think of my own 9 yr old daughter. I am going to give her THE biggest hug when I pick her up from school.

  • #359
So...now that she's being tried as an adult, will the media be able to report live from the 1:00 hearing?

Per Jodibug: The judge advised this morning that the same rules will still apply this afternoon. Those rules included no cell phones, cameras, pda's, nuclear warheads (for those that caught that part), etc... While I am hoping to find a live feed, I don't really expect to. It could be that the best we can hope for is a live feed from outside the courthouse. Jodibug, who is back in the courthouse now, will call me as soon as she gets out of there. I don't think the arraignment will offer much new information, other than her plea.

Death was by strangulation, then she cut her throat after the murder? Or were both strangulation and cutting the means of killing? Sorry if TMI.
