Gloria Faye Butler and co-worker Willie Jean Morgan, 5509DFMO were last known to be at a tavern located at 18th and Olive Streets in Kansas City, Missouri.
Willie Jean's purse had been stolen from her place of employment several days prior to their disappearance, and she had placed an ad in the local paper for her purse to be returned to her. On May 12, 1960, a man called Willie Jean at work and told her that his girlfriend had found the purse and to meet him at a tavern located at 18th and Olive Streets and he would hand over the purse. Willie Jean asked Gloria to go with her. Shortly after arriving at the tavern, the women called their homes and told family members that the man needed the women to drive him to North Kansas City to get the purse. The women have not been seen or heard from since. Later that evening, Willie Jean's car was found abandoned on the southbound side of I-35 in North Kansas City. The car was covered in dust, locked, had a flat tire, and was out of gas and motor oil.
