Huh? Still not getting you.

They were given a directive, and basically said they'll do it when it was convenient for them. That in and of itself is refusing to comply. We have no idea if he ever heard the BOLO, but he gave them a directive b/c as much as some want to label it "simple jaywalking," he told them to do,something b/c they were engaging in an illegal manner, and based on this street a dangerous manner. when a cop tells you to do something, you do it. And I think they often "check" to make sure that their directive is being complied with.

Crazy personal experience.

Last summer we were having a huge issue with our neighbor across the street. In a nut shell, he was doing extensive renovations on his house, and was disrupting my small block (only 6 homes, on decent sized lots). Multiple large trucks blocking driveways, street traffic, starting work before village code allows it, etc., etc. He basically turned his house into a large scale construction zone, and didn't give a crap how much he inconvenienced other residents while doing it, or that he continually violated village codes. We had to call police a few times b/c verbal arguments started happening. Well my oh so considerate neighbor decided we were the problem b/c we were making complaints. So one day he decides to make a huge spray painted 6'x8' sign with derogatory remarks directed to us, and propped it up at the end of his driveway. Obviously we called police. We watched from the house as a cop pulled up, got out and spoke to him...then drove away. We were shocked, thinking shouldn't have the cop spoken to us? Shouldn't he tell us what happened? Well, he obviously thought this guy might not comply with his directive to take down the sign, b/c he apparently drove around the block, and when he came around the corner and saw the sign still prominently displayed for all the traffic going by to see, he threw his car into park in the middle of the street, and approached my neighbor. Needless to say, the cop was not happy. My neighbor hung his head in shame, nodding away at whatever the cop was saying, and quickly took the sign down.

Whew. Long winded, sorry. But it seems common that when a cop issues a directive, more times than not they are going to "check" that the directive was complied with. If it hasn't been, that cop is gonna have something to say, and rightly so IMO.

We don't know his exact wordage or his tone when he said it. It could have just been a " can you get out of the street? Or " hey guys, Move out of the street" and kept going. Whatever it was it was nothing that had him so concerned as to pull over at that point and cite them. He moved on only stopping again after hearing the BOLO.

I suspect you are being sarcastic, but he does speak at a level beyond most boys in their late teens, and he was composed and not swearing. Give him some credit?

My first thought listening to Bosley was incredulity that he'd ever been elected Mayor of St Louis. Then Williams, DJ's new attorney jumps in to save Bosley from himself, and the first thing he says is that Ofc. Wilson shot both DJ and MB?

IKR?

The whole thing was so crazy last night I forgot all about that!

OK, change it to "young men." Better? I assumed he was more in the age range of MB. He is still eloquent for his age and background IMO

Does that mean we cannot disagree or have a viewpoint different from the majority of posters? That does not seem fair.

Well, personally I don't think MB is "completely innocent." He made some bad choices. I just don't think he deserved to die from them. Police should only shoot a suspect as a last resort. Given this and the other recent incident nearby with the guy who stole the snacks and was also shot to death, I think police in that area are too quick to shoot suspects rather than using other methods to subdue/arrest them.

Several posters have essentially said the same thing as you, "as a last resort". I've asked for a bit of clarification for what that means exactly. No one has been willing to really explain what they mean. Maybe you'd be willing to indulge me?

What would have been an alternative, acceptable means to subdue or arrest him, seeing that it's already been confirmed that there was a struggle over the gun and that there was at least one gunshot in the car?

TIA!

It really seems to me that the officer was paraphrasing that quote. I can't imagine a teen boy who is not in prep school talking like that!

That was a DIRECT QUOTE from Dorian Johnson, who was walking with MB.

Yes, so well spoken. Do you think he actually told that to a cop? We are but a minute to our destination...
LOL.

all one must do is watch his FIRST interview to know . . . he's totally being molded into a "stellar witness" -- HA! will never happen with the social media he posts & LE warrants for his arrest :)

And he put the item back on the counter and wanted no part of stealing.

He seemed to have learned his lesson from his previous brush with the law.

It's a shame he didn't choose who he hung out with a little better, he wouldn't be dealing with any of this.

All IMO

But there is no proof that MB "charged at" OW. I wish we knew more.

IMHO the autopsy proves it not to mention the videos posted on YouTube

Well, around here if people walk in the middle of the street they usually got run over.

My Mother did. In OC md. She crossed costal hwy 9:30 at night and got hit, while my brother watched from the balcony. She suffered a banged up body and a bump on her head but other wise she was ok. She was in the wrong, yeah she went court and the boy (young adult) did not get charged. There are pedx crossing there and she elected to run across and got hit.

Sorry but small correction. He gave them a verbal warning instead of citing them for obstructing traffic.

Walking in the middle of the street and obstructing traffic is a misdemeanor offense, yet the officer did not cite them.

Officer Wilson was being nice!

IMO verbal warning is most commonly given first. If no compliance, a citation is in order. When this first hit the news I thought that maybe DW was backing up to give them a citation for not complying to his directive, which would explain why he drove right up close a personal to them. But never and nowhere have I heard anything close to mentioning a citation. JMO

I predict that it will end at the GJ.

I hope you're right but unfortunately, I'm not that optimistic. I think TPTB will charge him to appease the mob mentality.

From the WH on down, the fix is in, IMO.

Strange... evidence has been presented that shows MB has been guilty of several things, but that's dismissed.

I really don't think people want evidence. I just think that people want what they want. And many want a white officer behind bars and MB to be nominated for sainthood.

sure hope for the betterment of StL that doesn't happen -- StL used to be the 4th Largest City in America!

I think there are so many problems with all the eye witness testimony and often we know that EWT is not always accurate.
I don't ever take EWT as gospel without corroborating evidence.

I see a lot of little discrepancies with both sides and so it is hard to find the truth.

But then I see somethings that both sides have in common.

It is not clear cut and dry for me yet. I still see many possibilities about what happened that day.
