IDK -- just my opinion but I would think a parent might look for boyscouts, a teacher, a religous leader, a big brother , group therapy etc to mentor a child IMO
I dont know :
Lesley McSpadden, Mr. Brown’s mother, says she relied on family and friends, including a retired juvenile officer, to help mentor her son. Credit Richard Perry/The New York Times I am just relaying what the NY Times reports

A PS here : posted a few back It is legal for mom to say he did have a criminal record if the records are sealed. so it was interesting that in this article it was stated as
he did not have a criminal record as an adult.
as an adult is an intersting qualifier to add to the sentence IMO (Similiar to going to "college") IMO
is that a strange way to word it - as opposed he had no criminal record. Legally (statues posted a few back ) legally if juvo i records are sealed it is legal to say no criminal record on job applications etc
