I don't think French's ward would include Ferguson. He's an alderman in St. Louis City and Ferguson is in St. Louis County. Having said that, it would truly be a blessing if there is a video from a security cam that caught everything on tape.
Maybe not even a community camera, but perhaps someone who had been having trouble with an ex, or having a car broken into repeatedly.
Wouldn't that be the "boom" digity?
Is it likely it was "Big Brother" ?
All posts are MOO

While I agree that some on either side have not progressed, people like the KKK don't get the kind of media support, they are not embraced by politicians, community leaders and MSM. They are across-the-board reviled.

I may have mentioned this before, buy my daughter is African American. We live in a VERY white neighborhood, but also with a heavy population of Hispanics, but only a very small population of AAs. She is one of the most popular girls in her school and is embraced with open arms by everyone we know. She is a competitive cheerleader and is one of the biggest stars at her gym - flyer, front point position and named MVP of her team last season. If racism existed in my community the way some would like to portray it as so rampant, I would highly doubt my DD would enjoy the kind of love and respect she gets from everyone who knows her.

FYI-when were making the plan to adopt her, I have to admit my initial apprehension...would our family and community accept her? Would they treat her differently? Would she be able to adapt? I am happy to say that she is an extremely happy and healthy young lady and one of the most resilient people I have ever met!

That's a wonderful story. And yes, people like you give me hope for humanity. I also think I want to move where you are. Just kidding. Kinda.

My kid has ADHD and the most freeing thing I ever read was in a book by Dr. Hallowell saying basically, that if you ever wonder when you will finally be able to step back and not have to constantly remind them of every little thing.........stop. Because as long as they live in your home....and after they leave...you will still have to help them with basic life skills and that is okay.

Rather than make me feel defeated, it gave me a sense of "well, okay, this is my child and this is OUR life".

Not to say MB had any LD like ADHD, but as parents, we are in it for the long haul, and we are in it together.

Bless MB's parents for riding him to finish school, especially in that crappy district and in an environment that does not especially value a HS education.

My oldest was just diagnosed with ADHD too. He's 9. There are good tools and meds to help now, but it's been a challenge for both of us. Fortunately, he's wicked smart like many ADHD kids. And yes, good for MB AND his parents for the accomplishment of him completing high school in that neighborhood.

I agree, certain things look very suspicious that there was possibly some coaching going on.

Good thing, the FBI is involved in this case and the investigation. And if there was some wrongdoing, I hope there will be consequences.

IMO, those initial statements made by those witnesses had a huge ripple effect. Resulting in uproar, outbursts, protests, riots, looting, violence. People getting hurt, even killed. LE had to take extra measures, costing a fortune.

If those initial statements would have been like: two young men walking down in the middle of the street, getting into an argument with a police officer, one of the young men, MB, starting pushing and punching the PO, was trying to grab the PO's gun, first shot was fired, MB run away, stopped, turned around and started bum-rushing PO to everyone's shock and surprise and was shot and killed while trying to attack the PO again... what would have been the outcome then? Would there have been any protests? Riots? Looting? Violence? IMO, no. Just my thoughts and MOO.

What? I mean, they would have had to have been right there next to MB, OW, and DJ in order to see that many details. Sure, we would all like to have first-hand witness for every case so they can ID the real killer. Doesn't happen that way. We have to piece together what each witness says.

JMO.

I feel bad for the people that have to work on Labor Day to make a living. Many do, my husband included.

I personally don't find people stopping for 4 1/2 minutes on a highway peaceful at all. As a matter of fact, I find it dangerously stupid. For the protesters that are going to do it and for the people who will be in the middle of it through no fault or choice of their own.

Meh, it can be done peacefully and without much fanfare frankly. If LE were smart, they'd divert traffic at the prior exits so there's no standstill of traffic any where near the protesters. Not having the image of protesters with a line of cars leading up to them will dilute any message. Let them have their 30 minutes then tell them they need to go or be subject to arrest and/or other actions as their cue card reads.

I don't know.

I do know MLK protests were supposed to be PEACEFUL.

I haven't seen much of that there. I so wish MLK were still here.

Me too.

I hate ever speaking for the dead, but I think MLK would be disheartened by the way protest has changed.

That said, his beliefs were founded before he was assassinated. I think that changed the way many people thought and expressed their feelings of being disenfranchised. If MLK had survived his attack, he may not have maintained his beliefs. But who knows.

His assassination definitely changed the civil rights movement, though.

It's well-publicized, short and there are surely alternate routes. I support their right to protest.

I noticed the complex was under extensive remodeling to comply with the CFMHP program when the images were taken.

And here is a direct link to Ferguson's CFMHP page that also includes many other community/police partner programs to reduce crime.
http://www.fergusoncity.com/94/Services-Programs

So I guess there is a lot of crime in that area.

I mean, you know, before all this happened.

It appears LE was trying to make things safer for that community.

Well, I am not so naive as to think DJ's experience was the same as the Duggar kids, but thanks. I think that being raised with 19 other kids is not reason alone to turn to crime.

Although, if I had to live in a home with 19 kids, I might knock over a liquor store just to get locked up for the peace and quiet.

Kidding!

I would just have to call Dr. Kavorkian. I could not imagine that at all ever.

A blessing for some, but a curse for others.

I hear ya, but anything with definitive answers is a blessing in my book. I don't care if it means DW is vindicated or if it means DW spends the rest of his life in prison. Unfortunately, I doubt we'll be so lucky as to get such definitive answers.

The "community cameras " would be a part of the CFMHP.

An example of local technology in the area is the 21st ward of Antonio French, which is " a few miles" from Ferguson. Who knows what else has been put in that area since 2011?

Ummm..someone posted upthread about "community cameras" being removed by LE. Canfield Green is part of the Crime Free Multi Housing Program:

( zoom in on signs)

The Crime Free Multi Housing Program utilizes security cameras, among other strategies. http://www.gocolumbiamo.com/Police/Crime/Crime_Free/documents/CFMH_Manual.pdf

Also, notice the nice ADT provided surveillance system put in Antonio French's ward ( i.e Ferguson) in 2011

Have a relaxing Labor Day :)

Are they saying cameras have been removed as part of the investigation?

Wasn't the previous traffic stopping protest peaceful? Or nonnviolent, if you don't want to use the word peaceful?

My husband and I both have to work on Labor Day. And most people I know do, also. Our employers no longer give us federal holidays as givens. We can use vacation time to take off.

In fact the only friends of ours who are off tomorrow are physicians (both- husband and wife).

Being one that will be on the highways tomorrow, I really don't care if they do or if they end up deciding not to. I'm sure there will be some that take issue but really, it won't be much different than an average day of rush hour traffic.

Same here, my son is also black, well he's actually half Hispanic but he doesn't identify as mixed...not sure why other than some people didn't believe him....so it's just easier.... And he doesn't really care.

I actually moved to be in a more racially diverse area. It's worked out fabulously. his friends are a rainbow of races, ethnicities and religions...I love it here:)
Law enforcement is very active in the community and has built really strong ties with children here of all ages.

Meh, if LE were smart, they'd be out there with their traffic ticket pads.

They're going to need to generate some more revenue to help rebuild all the businesses that were destroyed during the looting, protesting and rioting

As I remember it was. As I remember, it had such a small effect on traffic that I didn't realize that they actually did it until I saw it on local news at night. Some may have been arrested after the fact, but as I recall even that was peaceful. I think they fully expect to get arrested when they do that. Just keep it peaceful in the process.

OMG! So wrong and so funny.

But do think......with 19, you aren't talking all "little" kids.

Still, I hear ya. :gasp:

Oh snap! :jawdrop: Big brother was watching!

I am really glad to hear of these. Should clear things up substantially. I hope this video will be shared with the grand jury and eventually be made public. There are just too many questions right now with this case.
