Some people have jobs, and then through no fault of their own, they lose their jobs and home.

And some girls are sexual abuse victims and have a baby starting at age 14 and then continue to have more because this time the guy loves her. Not.

Or she ends up with a cheater, or an abuser, or an alcoholic or a druggie.

Or she develops a health problem or someone in her family does or.....

We are lucky. None of those things happened to us. Not because I am someone special. Just lucky so far.

That's a whole lot of assuming with the 'we' and 'us'

This forum is filled with hundreds of members that have gone through the scenarios you listed above and by the grace of personal choices and lots of hard work have risen above.

Do you really believe we have no say in our destiny? That it is all left up to luck?

I was a child sexual abuse survivor, starting about age 5 lasting for a few years.
It created some very bad symptoms which I dealt with for my teen years, like promiscuity and drug use.
My first husband was a cheater and an abuser.
So NO, I am not so LUCKY.

But I went to many incest survivor counselor groups over the years, and FOUGHT HARD to heal and become healthy again.

So NOOOOO, I don't make excuses for anyone who says they cannot figure out a way to drive legally.

That's horrible! :(

I'm glad you found a way to survive, to overcome, to heal and be now a very strong person. (((HUGS)))

oceanblueeyes...my thoughts on some of your points.
I really have never understood why they are wanting all fines dropped as if they never happened. If this is approved then does that mean everyone in the nation will also have theirs forgiven?

I really don't get all the angst over this. Amnesty days is not unusual in our area. If you are the right person, you can also simply ask for your charges to be dismissed and again, if you're the right person, they will be. I'd suggest that the majority of residents in Ferguson are not the right people. I would hope that people are just as incredulous over the fact that cops are rarely written tickets. Speeding and drinking and driving are frankly much more dangerous than driving while suspended in most cases. I would love to see a study done that shows the percentage of traffic tickets that are issued that are to police officers. Just seems to be a double standard (not necessarily you) by some when it comes to these things.

Isn't that why our rates in the USA are so high now as it is?

Our rates are so high because insurance companies like to make billions of dollars.

And so many of them seem to just not show up for court and then wonder why the Judge issues a bench warrant. I thought everyone knew if they had a court date they must appear. It boggles my mind that someone can be so bold as to not show up for a court matter. I would be scared to death they would come to my home and arrest me because I know a bench warrant would be issued if I did such a crazy thing.

What about those that do try to appear in court but are denied for whatever reason? According to some others here, one is not entitled to their day in court and should just mail in their payments.

To be fair they would have to then forgive every ticket issued in the entire country no matter what race they are. That would probably cause many cities to go bankrupt.

I don't know if one municipality's actions or one County's actions dictate what the rest of the country does, but given that amnesty days are already held here on occasion, I would suggest yes, contact your local politicians and tell them you want it too. Bankrupt? You're right. Some just might.

And some of these tickets are for not wearing a seat belt yet they know if LE spots them they will be ticketed just like anyone else is so why don't they just buckle up like the law requires? I just don't get it.

I never wear my seat belt and I've never been pulled over just for that. But then, I'm white. FYI - On your side of the argument...a seat belt ticket is only like $10.

I am sorry, but this seems like just another 'gimme' entitlement demand from one group, for one group alone, and that is flat out wrong to do such a thing no matter who it is.

I am afraid you have missed the point then.

IMO, a LOT of this could have been prevented if the media would have countered immediately that "a young man (MB, 18 years old) was shot by a police officer after assaulting him, trying to take his gun and trying to attack/bum rush him again after MB had committed a strong-armed robbery just minutes ago".

I agree with this. Unfortunately, I never did hear FPD issue such a statement. I said from very early on I thought the FPD did a poor job of getting out in front of this story. Reiterated that again after the shooting in the City and watched how they got out in front of that. Had the FPD issued a statement immediately saying "An officer was involved in a fatal shooting after being assaulted by a robbery suspect." things might have turned out completely different. FPD didn't do that and I suspect part of the reason is because they didn't know all of those things the day of the incident.

Huh?

The reply was to getting rid of laws.

They seem to be gone for those of affluenza who can kill while drunk driving or sexually abuse children.

Not wearing a seatbelt is in the same category?

My mistake, I didn't realize affluenza was a law, I thought it was an excuse.

And although there are laws against driving drunk and sexually abusing children, they are more serious charges than seatbelt laws and definitely in different categories.

Can't believe a young man is dead and this has become the traffic ticket thread.

It's not that the laws are unfair- it's just that statistic show that certain communities and skin colors are targeted for "enforcement" more than others

So they should get a blanket get-out-of-jail-free card for all non-violent offenses? Sorry, not in my book. And anyway, there's already an annual amnesty program. How many warrants are these people collecting every year, that it becomes such a problem during a 12-month period in between amnesties?

IMO, a big part of the problem is people who simply don't believe the rules that apply to the rest of us should apply to them. Granting a blanket amnesty would only encourage that attitude to continue and to become more entrenched.

You wanna live in a civilized society? You gotta play by civilized society's rules. Perhaps if MB had learned to play by the rules of a civilized society, he would still be alive.

I feel very fortunate in the cosmic wheel spin...just to have been born in this country, to two loving doting parents that were happily married till death parted them.
Yeah, I feel VERY lucky to have not been born poor or in some third world country...

You have got to be kidding me!

This is not Monopoly. This is real life. Perhaps the people with warrants should stop breaking the law.

I think you're missing the point. Why don't more white people have warrants? Because all whites are responsible? Why are so many of the warrants disproportionately for blacks? It's not whether or not a particular person should have a warrant, but what about the enforcement is leading to such a disparity and being so lopsidedly oppressive for one group but not the other.

She said media, not FPD. And, the investigation was immediately handed over to StL, and Chief Belmar held a press conference releasing that info the very next morning.

I was not talking about the police chief. I was talking about the media.

I don't believe the police chief put out that catchy headline. The media did.

Isn't it called sensationalism?

JMO

The media went off the information being provided. Unfortunately, FPD didn't get out in front of it. That's the point. There couldn't be any other headline because FPD sat on it and didn't get out in front of it.

Didn't Piaget say she called the media to come? And it appeared that the Black Panthers and Anthony Shahid who refers to himself as an agitator were on scene fast that day. I think the media became a tool to foment outrage whether intentionally or not. I'm glad people have found outlets for facts and information when many in the media became too invested in the narrative to research.

I highly doubt any of the local news stations failed to contact FPD that first day. In fact, if I were a betting man, I'd bet they did, in fact, call the FPD for comment very early on.

I cannot remember this detail if Piaget called the media and how they have the connection to the Black Panthers. I believe Piaget is a FB friend of the girl connected with the Black Panthers. And they are probably connected with Anthony Shahid. Furthermore, I don't believe everything Piaget said. IMO, some "tweaking" was done to "present" the case in the "right light". But they sure used this case to get attention, media attention etc. And people like Sharpton and Co showed up quickly. JMO.

Off topic but thanks for the laugh, I needed it.

BBM: I read "twerking" :hilarious:

Can't believe a young man is dead and this has become the traffic ticket thread.

Thank you, Klood-N! It's not as if MB was profiled. He robbed a store, assaulted the clerk, then ignored a police officer's lawful order to get out of the street, then assaulted the police officer, then fled, then turned and charged the police officer. There was no profiling going on there, and this case isn't about profiling. The activists and instigators are trying to use this case as if it's their own personal candy store to demand everything they've ever wanted.

This case isn't about profiling, and it's not about traffic tickets. It's about a very large powerful man who committed several violent acts in a very short space of time, and who suffered the consequences of his choices.

double post, sorry.

Are you saying you don't believe the officer was injured?

I'm saying I'd like to see some pictures from the scene that are closer up to see if they show obvious signs of injury. To be honest, while I usually don't HOPE for a result, but would rather just let the facts play themselves out, I do HOPE in this instance that it shows some sign of injury otherwise yes, when he suffered an injury can and will be called into question by certain parties.

In the video I saw MB grab and entire display box of packaged cigarellos and then proceed to drop and pick up a handful of those packages. The swisher sweet slender variety usually come three to a package at several dollars per package. So if he took ten or twelve of those packets, that would easily equal $48 dollars in retail value.

Those same swishers are in the exact same display box situated prominently on the counter at the corner convenience store in my hood. because they are the most popular means of rolling blunts in my area.

Yepp. I see them as well. I don't doubt that it added up to that much. I just remember thinking damn, that's a lot for swisher sweets.
