Being a seemingly reasonable resident of Ferguson or environs, what do you think of this "meeting"?

Haven't watched a second of it. Just got online a few minutes ago and figured I missed most of it. My guess is that there is very little of Robert's Rules of Order being followed by the people but anyone that thought there would be is kidding themselves. You have angry, pissed off people that think the system has failed them, the system that is at that meeting. You also have people that have never lived their lives according to Robert's Rules of Order and IF the intent of the meeting is to re-establish trust with the community, such a rigid structure probably isn't the best way.

[Very delayed double post]

The thing is: I really want to hear what these folks have to say, but it's really hard to listen when it seems as if most of what is being said in that hall is coming from a place of hatred against law enforcement and hatred for elected officials and what appears to be hatred against anything & anyone who disagrees with them.

I haven't walked in their shoes. I'm a middle-aged Caucasian woman. I've never been profiled by any police officer. I've been pulled over once for running a yellow light that turned red as I passed through the intersection, but was only given a warning. I've been pulled over once for expired tabs (because I sincerely believed they weren't expired) and was only given a warning.

If I was a resident of Ferguson/St. Louis County and if I was African American, would I have been issued tickets for these same offenses? IDK

Have these commenters been so persecuted during their lifetimes that their hatred is justified? IDK

One thing I do know that hatred cannot accomplish anything.

So, are these folks representative of the peaceful protestors we've heard so much about? Not watching it, but the Ferguson residents were described as cool, calm and collected and it was out of towners causing all the problems. Thoughts?

Did the destroy anything? Did they attack anyone? Honest questions because I'm not watching.

If that's in response to my post, I didn't say no police. I said the FPD should be disbanded, or they should walk off the job or whatever the case is.

No, I was referring to this: That speaker wants all of Ferguson police officers let go

Also forgot the transportation system would probably shut down because of no police protection. Drug stores, liquor stores, etc. on and on.

This city council meeting is breaking my heart. By far, the majority of the speakers are exceedingly prejudiced and aggressive. Is there not even one among any of them, who can try to move the crowd towards impartiality, fairness or equality. As loud as some of these people yell against racism ~ They (the yellers, for those who have a problem with the word "they") are proving to be the perfect examples of discrimination themselves.

Several of them rushed the stage and were screaming loud at the mayor because he would not agree to arrest OW--even tho he explained he has no ability to do so....other protestors had to hold several people back from jumping up on the stage...

They are shouting rudely and making some scary threats....telling the council members to watch their backs...and their families....threatening them is wrong , imo....

Well I agree with that speaker. Of course, the difference is I'd have County PD take it over.

If you read my post, you'd see I am not watching either? If your question was rhetorical, perhaps just say what you want to say.

So I take it they destroyed nothing and injured no one and were expressing their frustration and anger?

Reedus,

the street that the 'jaywalking' happened on...NO WAY would a basketball net be placed there, or skateboarders lingering there. It is a busy road the is the only entrance into a huge apt complex. It is not a lazy, suburban, back street. My kids played in the street too. We live at the end of a cul-de-sac.

Very different from the street they were walking down the middle of. They were BLOCKING TRAFFIC. And it is a narrow road. So if a car wants to pass by them, it needs to go into ONCOMING TRAFFIC.

What does it do to you, when you are threatened?

I would feel 'injured' if a few people issued threats to me, about watching my back and my family, and the crowd cheered.
