Not the way the organizers wanted this reported

Highway shutdown averted at Ferguson protests

A planned highway shutdown fell through Wednesday as a wall of officers in riot gear kept Ferguson police shooting protesters from walking onto Interstate 70 in a nearby St. Louis suburb during the late afternoon commute.

protesters.html#storylink=cpy

Concrete blocks, 4 counts assault of a law enforcement officer. Bet that's a serious charge with serious time attached.

I don't understand the officers in riot gear. I saw some of the photos and the live cam feed and only saw officers in normal police attire. Did I miss something?
Btw, that link doesn't work :(

ETA: Never mind, I looked back at a different video of the protest today and did see a few cops wearing riot gear but most weren't. Pretend I didn't post this :)

SERIOUSLY, cops need to leave Ferguson.
The looters, rioters, street blockers are disgusting and are undeserving of LE protection imo.

Ya...but surely there were many more that didn't go, that aren't ignorant hateful and violent ? Right? People that don't drag their babies out and into the chaos?

I cannot BELIEVE people are taking babies and small children to a protest where there are bricks and bottles being thrown!!!!

  • #884
OK-so I take one business trip today and come back to all of this??? YIKES!! That's it people. Keep making Ferguson proud. SMH.

And you have to love the way it's reported...it was mostly peaceful...except for some who were throwing bricks and bottles....and the police shouldn't have had riot gear on because that makes them aggressive....:shame:

Perhaps so, but they are a very, very small minority of the population of Ferguson. You'd be willing to sacrifice the safety of all of the innocent, law-abiding majority because of a handful of people who break the law? Something seems very wrong about that to me. Aren't police paid to protect the innocent from those who break the law?

The two black officers that I saw at the front line were holding those plastic riot shields. I know they would be the number one targets for bricks and bottles. The protestors say they want more black officers, but in reality, some call them sell outs and uncle toms, and often treat them horribly.

Missouri statue concerning assault on a law enforcement officer. It's a felony.

http://www.moga.mo.gov/statutes/c500-599/5650000082.htm

Also from a criminal defense site, specifying that if you TRY to cause serious physical injury to a police officer (say, by grabbing for his weapon) this is a felony regardless of the level of physical injury actually sustained:

Assault in the First Degree Against Certain Victims
If the victim of an assault in the first degree is a law enforcement officer, corrections officer, emergency personnel (such as a firefighter, emergency room personnel or emergency medical technician), highway worker, or probation and parole officer, the crime is a Class A felony, regardless of what injury does or does not result from the offense.
(BBM)

http://www.criminaldefenselawyer.com/resources/criminal-defense/criminal-offense/missouri-aggravated-assault-laws

And this, kids, is why you don't get physical with a cop and then expect to go skipping back to Grandma's house even if you didn't actually fracture their eye socket.

Darn near half of them last night said they want the police fired.

Hmm, since when has CNN been anything but irresponsible?

You mean like holding a city hostage by burning down buildings or just threats of terrorism in general? It seems to me that some care about no one but themselves. A real slap in the face on the anniv of 9/11 and America in general.

They all should be throw in jail and charged with terrorism , because that is exactly what this is !

That's what they were calling them on IG underneath their photo and name.

Of course you are right.
Yet I have a great fear for LE and business owners in Ferguson. Tonight it became more than a little obvious that some want OW either arrested or dead. If no true bill is found by the GJ... the city, LE, shop owners and employees will likely be targets for disgruntled MB supporters. imoo

But, but CHERIE.T, how will the protesters stop interstate traffic without the mean police there to protect them from getting run over like a pack of armadillos? :waitasec:

That's what they were calling them on IG underneath their photo and name.

My son's friend joined the LAPD. His family and friends warned him that the other cops, the white ones, were going to harass him. But that has not happened. The strak reality has been the way he has been treated by many blacks in the community. Calling him Tom under their breath. Or how it feels to get his 'white card' punched. And he feels very vulnerable out in the streets.

So it makes me sad when I hear the protestors 'demanding' more black officers, when they are mistreating and disrespecting the ones they have.

Something seemed wrong to me when SOME MB supporters looted stores,
burned down at least one business and threw bottles of piss at LE.

Something seemed wrong to me when marchers screamed that they wanted OW dead.

Something seemed wrong to me when cops told marchers to step back and protesters yelled to cops-----step back ----- f@#k that.

Something seemed wrong to me when there are tweets to burn the town down.

Something seemed wrong to me when 600 people threatened anyone and everyone at a council meeting who was white.

Soooooooo those people dont deserve chit from LE or merchants or anyone else they're threatening.
