Brown supporters say they'll escalate civil-disobedience actions, including blocking highways, until their demands are met.

"I have every confidence that, come Wednesday, Anthony [Shahid] is going to make sure that highway is shut down," Vickers says.

http://blogs.riverfronttimes.com/da..._for_new_prosecutor_in_michael_brown_case.php

Long-time St. Louis activist Anthony Shahid will lead protesters across Interstate 70 today, shutting down the highway to protest the lack of a special prosecutor on the Michael Brown court case.

There's Shahid again.

The Wednesday civil-disobedience action will be the start of a direct action campaign that will continue and will escalate until our demands are met."

It's not just causing inconvenience, it's dangerous and unlawful. I hope police thwart them, or arrest them, but certainly don't accommodate them. Drivers could get very angry, violence could occur, what about ambulances, fire trucks, etc? It's narcissistic, terroristic grandstanding, in my opinion. I think some of these "leaders" have been waiting for something to exploit to try to claim fame as a new MLK. I think standing on the back of a dead Michael Brown to do it is sick.

OT/a little on topic/uplifting

Came home from shopping last week. There was a black man teaching his son to ride a bike on the sidewalk. My eyes met his and we both smiled. That's the way life ought to be.

Why can't they do absentee voting? And how do they stand in those long voter lines if they can't stand in those long id lines?

In MO those 69 and over don't need to renew their photo ID card as long as they live in MO. So, $11 one-time fee is it. And absentee voting is definitely the way to go imo.

BBM. IMO, that's the part that's really frightening.

Hm. Could the highway shutdown and re-escalation be a method to try to force Gov. Nixon to call out the National Guard again, then these "leaders" will swoop in to bully him into replacing McCulloch?

‘Anything short of arresting that White cop for murder is an insult to Black people and Ferguson city Hall and Police department needs to burn to the ground!!!’

Tony Thompson, founder of Kwame Construction and member of the Regional Crime Commission wrote those words. Activist Eric Vickers responded, ‘Right On!’

Thompson agreed to come to FOX 2 to talk about it. He said, ‘I`ll apologize for the language of it because it certainly was not my intent to incite any type of violence, but I use the metaphor `burn down` as the metaphor for `disbanded.`’

That doesn't sound like any metaphor I've ever met. He meant exactly what he said, and he's unfit for the position he holds.

I agree. How can you be part of investigating or reducing crime when you're encouraging it, as a community leader no less?

I think the plan is to continue to push for an immediate arrest, then immediate lawsuits will be filed.

What they want is a special prosecutor -- and they want him to exercise the magical powers of a prosecutor to get the GJ to indict a ham sandwich. Because OW is about as guilty as a ham sandwich, so that's their only hope of an indictment.

Funny thing is, he's not even the one presenting the information to the grand jury. He's just a figurehead in the way, like Officer Wilson, IMO.

Good point. Two experienced assistant DAs are presenting evidence to the gj, both female, one AA and one white.

I saw somewhere last night that if their demands aren't met after this highway shutdown, they'll do it two days next week. The demands seem to grow daily. Anyone seen the latest list or that 38 page burn townhall diatribe?

No. But according the the article I posted from fox above ALL media stations got it. Wonder why it has not been released to the public by the media.

The conversation is contained in a 38 page email sent to all St. Louis Media. It’s titled ‘Civil Disobedience Shutdown of Interstate 70,’ then this comment ‘Anything short of arresting that White cop for murder is an insult to Black people and Ferguson city Hall and Police department needs to burn to the ground!!!’

I posed this to Thompson, ‘Your statement, as strong as it is, and other words that are being used like `demands` and `non-negotiable` seem to send the message there`s not an interest in the process and finding new evidence or new truths, that there`s just an interest in one result.’

It is not ok to act on something that obviously is going to be a threat in violence

Wow.

So, Tony stated he's biased. I think he should lose his position on the Crime Commission. I don't believe for one minute "burn it to the ground" was metaphorical. Not given that the QuickTrip was burned down, and the rioters tried to burn down the BBQ restaurant and threw Molotov cocktails. At best, it's grossly irresponsible particularly in his position. And as Vickers acknowledged, it is a threat of violence. I'm glad the police have that email and may be investigating.

Well, if these are respected leaders in this community (SMH), maybe Thompson saying they'll have to accept it if the verdict doesn't go the way they want (or I think that's what he meant to say) may help.

Glad to see actual reporting on this case. Kudos to this reporter for asking the tough questions that many seem to be ignoring.

I wonder what Obama thought when he received it, both as President and a former community organizer?

i wish i could be as optomistic as you sound if the gj comes back with no indictment.

the part of the article that makes me think he was disingenuous is the use of "fair": He said, ‘See my bias means I want it to be a fair process. I`m not saying I don`t want a process. I`m saying I want a fair process.’

i'd like to know what would be a "fair process" in their opinion. i'm reading this as it makes no difference who is the prosecutor - it's the grand jury "process" that's unfair.
