I learned a lot last night while listening to the speakers. I posted a quick set of notes I took on their 'requests/demands.'
- want more black officers, city councilmen, mayors, prosecutors....
- want more black owned businesses in Ferguson
-want police to stop 'harassment' of giving them tickets, etc
I really don't see what the city council has to do with those 'demands.' If they want more blacks in office and in uniform, then they need to run for office, apply for the academy, and go the law school. The City Council does not control that
If they want more black owned businesses then start some. It takes initiative and motivation and capital. No one else is going to do it for them. But seeing how some of the business owners have been treated, I wonder if Ferguson would be their 1st choice of location.
As for harassment, that is questionable. Maybe SOME people are being harassed. But I think that many people count routine police interactions as harassment. I got a ticket once for not having my seatbelt on 'correctly. ' My arm was above the belt and I got pulled over and got ticketed. On the way to drop kids off at school. If I was black, I could make that sound very 'discriminating racist' harassment. But he was just doing his annoying job.
