I retract my previous post in the other thread about the shoes.

The video is now out from the convince store and the man there is definitely wearing flip flops with socks. In the pictures from MB in the street it looks like he is wearing sneakers.

There is no way someone would stop to change their shoes after this, would they?

The shoes in the street appear to be flip flops to me, JMO.

Honestly, IMHO, I don't even think the robbery is relevant at this point. Regardless of the crime committed, you don't murder a surrendering person, even if they are a suspect.

The thing is, for all the debate about needing to "teach" officers not to use unwarranted deadly force, the ones who do something wrong probably don't do so as a result of lack of education. Most of them manage to deal with very difficult situations on a regular basis and make appropriate decisions, but there are bad apples in any profession, and the consequences of that in some professions are very serious. There's too much generalizing all around in every way. Police officers need to be held to very high standards, because they have a lot of of power and take on that responsibility. This doesn't need to be about "LE" as a whole, but nothing should ever be covered up because we need to monitor their actions as much as is feasible.

Ive watched since early this morning, watched the Ferguson Police and then I watched the coverage with Johnson and the Governor's presser.
I believe the same as you. Capt. Johnson in my opinion was merely stating, destroying our community is not going to solve anything. We must confront all this emotion in a positive manner, as the whole truth unfolds and destroying our community with destruction is not the way to go about it.

My thought is if one robs stores and fights police officers you might get shot. If Brown was shot in the store by the clerk there would be protests about being shot over cigars blindly side stepping assault and theft.

A whole lot of people ran into the streets on a knee jerk reaction. Can't save face now by saying oh well, still Brown should not have been shot. Breaking into stores and burning buildings shame on those who did this. IMO the next time this happens the general public will pay even less attention. Jmo

This is gut-wrenching. I am stunned to see so much animosity toward LE by the general public.

I do agree that LE could have handled this officer-involved shooting in a much different way. The more or less lack of meaningful communication is/was still no reason for the burning, looting, and violence that took place. It certainly didn't solve anything, IMO.

I was a deputy for 10 years. My late husband was retired LE with 22 years of service. There was a saying that we used to have: "Too many people hate LE until they need them." Now, too many people distrust LE, IMO, but wouldn't hesitate to call them when needed.

We do not know what happened yet. We do not have the whole story. That has been shown by the information that just came out. Either side could have reason to lie at this point. There could have been a struggle for the gun inside the vehicle. We don't know. One thing I do know for sure is that there is never a reason for shooting a person in the back, IMO. I will wait to see if that happened.

This police officer only had 6 years of experience on the force and could have reacted in a way totally outside of his training, but we don't know that. The young guy (Brown) could have had a weapon or the guy with him his friend (Johnson) could have had a weapon. Neither Brown or Johnson obeyed the officer's command, IMO. A struggle ensued and shots were fired. The officer was assaulted and a young man is dead.

There has been a robbery and assault on the store clerk or owner. Brown is shown in footage assaulting the clerk or owner. LE is called and responded. Brown fit the description of the young man the officer stopped, or attempted to stop. Everything went south from there. We do not know exactly what transpired.

I am torn about whether or not LE should have provided more information to the public, but it could have been communicated in a much better way. LE could have simply stated that the investigation was not complete and rather than give out incomplete information that it would be given upon the conclusion. LE has never given a press conference giving out all the information they have.

I don't think there is a mother on earth that does not think her son is the best there is. My heart goes out to her for losing a son.

IF it is Brown on that store footage, then he assaulted the clerk/owner, and he stole property that was not his. That is a crime. He is not quite the angel he was thought to be, and that did not look like any gentle giant to me on that footage.

This is beside the point, but what many people use those cigars for is to hollow them out and replace the tobacco with pot.

This post is too long, but after this one I will go back to just reading. (I promise) My point is that I will wait for the facts. If the officer is wrong, I will accept it. BUT, please do not judge this officer by anything other than the true facts that will eventually come out.

MOO

CNN just played a loop of the store footage (on cable, so no link). I found images via google of Mike Brown at the scene of the shooting.

The clothing, as well as the footwear, worn by the robbery suspect in the store matches the clothing - including the footwear - worn by Mike Brown at the scene of the shooting. The only thing missing from the shooting scene pics is the red ball cap, but he could have taken it off after the store robbery, or it could've fallen off at some point during the shooting incident.

the pictures of his feet are the same to me, you can see them from the front in the video and i see nothing inconsistent - but that is sort of moot because dorian johnson has admitted to LE that he and michael were at that store and stole something;

http://www.msnbc.com/msnbc/ferguson-police-name-michael-brown?cid=sm_m_main_1_20140815_29822566

this new information definitely provides context that it relevant and appropriate, it also brings up many more questions.

many people are going to get distracted with the release of this new information (calling it character assassination, he didnt deserve to die for stealing) , but it would be a mistake to go down that road.

officers complete statement and dispatch calls are the next big things to see obviously, was he stopping them for being suspects in a felony? we have not heard that before, we actually heard from LE that the origin of the incident was because they were walking in the road. if he was stopping them for being suspects in a felony did he follow the felony stoppage protocol?

in my opinion this officer will never be charged with anything, and if he is he will never be convicted. certainly he can never police another day in ferguson tho.

Very, very well stated, lawstudent!! Thank you!

"One thing I do know for sure is that there is never a reason for shooting a person in the back, IMO. I will wait to see if that happened. "

it is legal in specific circumstances, if it did happen here im sure they are going to argue that it was legal and appropriate, and it will probably work.

It's just the shadow cast by the shoes from the light coming from outside in the pic at the convenience store.

Police report indicates suspect was wearing yellow socks and flip flops.

The video is now out from the convince store and the man there is definitely wearing flip flops with socks. In the pictures from MB in the street it looks like he is wearing sneakers?

(edit, I think this is just the style of sock. they are striped?)

Dorian said in his video that Brown is wearing flip flops during the shooting.

In an interview with msnbc shortly after the report was released, Johnson’s lawyer confirmed that Brown had taken cigars from the store.

“We see that there’s tape, that they claim they got a tape that shows there was some sort of strong-armed robbery,” said Freeman Bosley, Johnson’s attorney. “We need to see that tape, my client did tell us and told the FBI that they went into the store. He told FBI that [Brown] did take cigarillos. He told that to the DOJ and the St. Louis County Police.”

So, when faced with evidence, Dorian Johnson finally admits to investigators that he was with Brown when Brown robbed a store minutes before the officer pulled up to them in the street. In his previous media interviews, Johnson repeatedly insisted that he & Brown hadn't done anything wrong.

From Johnson's very first interview, I was suspicious of some of the things he said. Turns out my suspicions were justified.

Now I'm even more suspicious of Johnson's version about what led to the shooting.

Where are the cigars?
Where are the 911/dispatch calls coming out? Not just bits n pieces.
I want to hear the description of the suspect.
I want to know if the Officer contacted dispatch that he needs backup, he has eyes on a person who fits.
I want to know if the Officer who was on a medical call with EMS heard the traffic of the robbery.
I will not come against anyone, except to say hindsight is 20/20.
Ferguson PD could have handled this all a lot better then what they did.
I want to see/hear from Forensic's experts, outside of Ferguson PD.
How many times has this Officer been in this kind of situation. How did he handle it before.
I know He has a clean work record.
To me, toooo many questions.
I'll save my opinion on what happened until these questions are answered.

I say we pull the police out of Ferguson completely and let them handle things on their own,.
RSBM

HeeHeeHee...... lmao , your post made me chuckle. Sorry if you weren't trying to be amusing. It's just that an image came into my mind of ensuing chaos :panic: and the citizens of Ferguson yelling and begging for LE to come back !! :please: :tantrum:
