Ok, I saw an episode of Brain Games regarding expert intuition of law enforcement personnel some time ago that came to mind recently regarding Officer Wilson.

Scientists have discovered a second type called expert intuition, which is the sort that comes from special training and experience. Studies of nurses in the 1980s, for example, revealed that those who had been in the profession for a long time tended to make better judgments and to do it more quickly. In a study published in the journal Science in 2011, researchers examined the brains of expert Japanese chess players and found that they utilized different regions of their brains while playing than amateurs did. In particular, they had more activity in the precuneus area of the parietal lobe, a region associated with visualizing images and episodic memory. When they needed to come up quickly with a move, activity surged in the caudate nucleus, where goal-directed behavior is rooted. The researchers believe that the experts’ intuitive skill resulted from a circuit that they had forged between the two regions from many years of training.

Here's part of the clip about LE expert intuition.

In essence, the episode says expert intuition allows LE to more quickly/accurately observe and act on information than laypeople, in determining a suspect as an example. Makes sense to me, and reinforces why laws allow for what the officer reasonably believes. Not only did the "for no reason" witnesses lack all the information Darren had at the moment he fired, but they also would not be as skilled at evaluating the level of risk or need as an officer.

Moo

PS There's more about LE intuition via google.

Reminds me of "ways of knowing" and "theory of knowledge".

In healthcare, especially intensive care, and OR environments, rapid assessment, rapid decision making, and action are essential skills. It's recognizing the early and subtle signs that your patient is spiraling, and headed for a crash, but intervening and PREVENTING the crash. (And there are no awards for that-- ideally no one even notices. That's true skill.) But as I tell my anesthesia students, simply "having" Plan A, Plan B, and Plan C in your back pocket, is no guarantee of success. The REAL skill comes with being able to rapidly determine WHEN to abandon Plan A, and go to Plan B, or Plan C. That's when you save lives.

The million dollar question is, how do you teach what typically comes with substantial experience? Simulation, drills, algorithms, and repetition have been the answer for healthcare. The military, airline industry, and law enforcement have also substantially incorporated high level simulation.

Another great book on this topic, highly recommended:

It's not against the law for the police to lie or not tell all the details.
http://www.[link removed]/news/police-can-lie-to-you/

But it does make them look unethical or inept. Which is a dumb thing when you're holding a presser to restore faith that there is a serious investigation. Same as telling people it was about jaywalking. That was pretty messed up.

Where did you find that? Is there a link?
Not sure I can post the link I found this but it was posted by anonymous with a nasty comment about look who is back OR something like that.

Still? That implies we have actually seen pics of him swollen and bruised before. I guess it;s his left eye then?
The only pics I saw of his injuries were debunked.

I would think they weren't at the local courthouse (or wherever it is the GJ typically meets) otherwise I don't think we would have gotten pics.

I just find it very odd that he would be paraded around in any kind of public area, on his way to testify to the GJ. I'd think security would be incredibly tight, and he'd never be allowed to be seen in a public place to have cell phone pics of him taken, or worse.

I posted my sons orbital fracture way back. It took en entire year for the bruise to be completely gone.
A month later & still bruised like that leads credence it wasn't a simple black eye. IMO ImageUploadedByTapatalk1411098825.390739.jpg
This photo was three months out.

Probably someone in the right place right time. He has what looks like a sheriff with him for security. You can tell the photo was taken on the downlow.

He looks thinner to me too.
Poor guy.

It sure is! That eye and the uniform ...huge impression!

I took my son's photo that day because the blood in his eyeball had finally cleared up. The outer part of the white part, was solid blood red for two months...then it finally started to clear up and that took the entire third month.

I was posting some examples from his twitter feed when my Internet glitched and ate it. Suffice it to say, Shaun King has his "facts" wrong as a matter of course, IMO. Examples: he erroneously states there were no FOIs, and the jury is the one who "stalled" til January. No one stalled and it wasn't the jury who made that decision!

Just another person looking to benefit from Michael's death, in my view.

First thought, he's just some internet wannabe no different than CJ. Seems to me that even talking about anonymous Joe's like this give them credibility.

Second thought, didn't frydaddy establish long ago what he is just now piecing together, at least as far as the distances go?

Lawful for police to lie?
Ok, imo, when LE, detectives speak w suspects, per various ct rulings.

Diff, imo, when a Chief or spokesperson for dept addresses MSM or gen pub about crim case developments.
Imo, better for Chief
-to stick w generalities..... We are investigating, will keep working on case;
-to deflect questions.........More info as we piece it together.

JM2cts.

I get they'll lie, even to the media in a typical case. REAL BIG problem if they're lying when it is an officer who is the SOI. Lying in a case like this can be viewed by one side as weeding out witnesses and can just as rightfully be viewed as a cover up by the other side. As usual, the truth is somewhere in between. Belmar flubbed up. Move on.
