So how many people were arrested? One or two guys? I can't tell if it was two or just one (from different camera angles). In any case, this relatively small group of protesters got what it wanted: police presence.

BBM.

This is a completely, thoroughly inaccurate statement about medical care. Absolutely incorrect.

It would take me an entire thread to explain all of the reasons why, so I won't.

The need for diagnostic imaging (x ray, CT, MRI, perfusion, etc) of the head and neck is absolutely independent of whether or not there is any kind of visible injury. (Related to trauma, in this case.) And that doesn't even begin to cover all of the medical reasons (illness, disease, etc, not related to trauma) where imaging is necessary. History is very important, as well as ABSENCE of history, in a patient who is unable to give a history.

I have to stop, or I'll be here typing for a loooooong time about this.

However, it is true that hospitals take head injuries very seriously. I take head injuries seriously, and I'm not even a whole hospital-- just a lowly anesthetist, lol!

I was saying the same thing! Left out quotes- sorry it was unclear.
Seems to be a misconception around here that if there were xrays, it means there was a visible injury. Not so- thanks for clearing that up.

  • #225
In her defense, I think she was agreeing with you, that x-rays can be taken, even if no injury is present.

Agreed -- I think a double-negative may have thrown some off.

Has anyone ever stopped to think that maybe, just maybe, the reason these protesters are acting and carrying on the way they are is because they have tried for years, decades even, what you may call a more reasonable approach and still feel as though they are not being heard. Please take a minute and try to imagine their pain and frustration. Because it is very real, they are not making it up. Many people of color truly and legitimately do feel as though they are discriminated against by LE. It is real. It is NOT just a bunch of thugs looking for a reason to act like idiots. They have concerns that are not being heard, no matter how they deliver their message.

What I am saying does not excuse illegal or harmful behaviour. What I am saying is that it may be time to try and feel a little compassion.

In the general sense regarding LE as a whole:

Law Enforcement:

Members of Law Enforcement regularly read at WS. Generally they contact WS Admins when they register, but there is no requirement that they do so. Unless they ask us to, we do not publicly identify them, but all posters should be aware that public comments about illegal activity could bring them attention they may not want. WS receives subpoenas on a regular basis from various agencies. WS will comply with all valid subpoenas received.

Ain't that the truth!

Ummm, No!
There is absolutely nothing holding anyone back from getting an education or voting or following and respecting the law.
IMO at this point, it IS a bunch of thugs leading their children to become thugs.

Why are there not many black cops there? Look how the black officers are being treated now! Nothing stopping people from raising their children to respect themselves AND authority and the law. how many of the children out there today do you think want to run for office? Become a cop? Own a business? IMO NONE!
Look at the example their parents are setting! Those children should NOT be there. They should NOT be taught to hate the police and blatantly be so disrespectful!!!
They made me SICK today!!!

But its alil disturbing how so many of you are so dismissive of the accounts of tiffany mitchell and piaget chrensaw

Why?

Tiff and Paiget tailored their testimonies. First of all, at one point, Piaget said on CNN that she and her boss ' saw everything from her balcony.' But Tiffany said she drove up on the middle of the incident. And then called Piaget. So that makes what Piaget said about seeing everythig together from her balcony impossible to have happened.

Also, there are pictures of Piaget, Tiffany, Dorian and MB's mom and some political activists, standing together in a close group BEFORE they were interviewed. That brings some of their testimony into question for me.

But most interesting, is one of Piagets EARLY interviews, the one in which she said MB might have moved towards the officer 'by a centimeter.' She said that " Mike never got his hands all the way up, more like halfway up, middle of his chest.' And she even mimics the movement, stopping halfway.

And yet she is used as the main source of witness testimony to say he had his hands up in surrender. When in actuality, she said HE NEVER HAD HIS HANDS FULLY RAISED.

And neither of them saw the start of the confrontation. So it was not seen in any context at all.

Ditto!

OK, so y'all please check this out...

When I read that the newspaper said the SUV driver was arrested, my hunky meter pinged hard about that whole deal, especially with the video guy going to the station to show his video "proof" that he was a victim of "attempted vehicular homicide."

So I just re-watched the video a few times and... Well, y'all tell me what you see.

Here's the video.

Start around 2:40. The movement just before he says "Really? REALLY??!"... Is his" proof".

What do you see?

(ETA: that link should go directly to the right video on the page. If you just see a bunch of videos, choose the one that has the big red building in the background, and the guy in the red shirt walking in front of the silver car in the foreground.)

Michael Brown was not killed years ago. Using his death to feed old resentments and prejudices against LE and nonblacks is repugnant, IMO.

Oh Linda. I understand your opinion. Any chance you can just take a few minutes to try and understand why they may be acting this way. Try some compassion, that is all I am suggesting.

Time for these people to get out and vote if they want different representation. Also, attending City Council meetings and participating in a civil manner might serve them well. Making demands, threats and shouting over other people at one meeting isn't going to help them. It's hard to believe they've been trying for years or decades to effect change since the facts show (links have been provided regarding statistics) they don't vote and they have never attended City Council meetings.

I don't want to taint people's perceptions! :D

Seriously, what pops out at me has to do with the level and placement of the camera. ;)

IMO, these protests AND this thread are no longer about Mike Brown. So I agree with you. But it does show us there is still a lot of hate and anger in this part of the world. Someday people are going to realize that you can't overcome hate with more hate. Yet that is what we do, from Ferguson, MO all the way to the Middle East.

Mustafa was following the convoy that was suposed to be taking the driver to the station. Then he lost them at a red light, and said, I am taking a shortcut, I will be right back. Stay here and wait for me, he said to the audience. And it has been 35 minutes already. Wonder what happened to him?

Arrested??

  • #238
Bottom line, if the news report that this SUV driver is under arrest, then I'm sorely tempted to drive up there and do some protesting of my own.

At least we should make a noise about it wherever we can, because it's BS.

Imo

This thread WOULD be about Mike Brown if some would stop making it about racism, which it clearly is NOT.
