Protestors are pretty angry about Johnson's speech on SM.

Good. That means they heard him and know what he said. No excuses.

99% of people in St. Louis and the surrounding area have no concerns and haven't been affected in any way by what's going on in Ferguson. I suspect the same will be true even after the GJ decision. They'll see it on the news and read it in the paper but otherwise, life will go on as always for nearly everyone. Now, the people in Ferguson which is what I think the OP was referring to is a different story. If I lived in Ferguson, no, I don't know that I'd want to stay around for the announcement. I suspect everyone will be more prepared this time and the national guard will be on stand by and close by if not actively deployed immediately.

respectfully, I don't agree with your 99% assessment especially here in the City

Note the 3 couples robbed in Lafayette Square this weekend all in the name of "Michael Brown" -- we in the City are discussing this situation & preparing for no true bill to be returned by the GJ

It is definitely worth it, but my point is that the current mindset is not conducive to a proper investigation. For example, if you are trying to get a group of kids to tell you how something happened, such as a broken piece of furniture, and they all stick to the same, unbelievable story, it is a waste of time. I also fear that the people who might be helped by this will not be able to get help because of the bullies who start yelling, screaming, and chanting at these meetings, preventing any and all real progress. Clearly, there is a need in this town. But at this time, until cooler heads prevail, there is just going to be a lot of wheel spinning. JMO.

I see what you're saying. I suspect some of that will be going on. I also suspect that, while they'll give heed to all, the stories that will be given the most serious consideration and looked into first are the ones that are told in private, not during the open, public session.

I don't know, enough whining perhaps? Johnson mentioned it, along with a LOT of money grants going, I presume, to the poor, unheard masses living in Ferguson.

Yeah. That will make it aaaaallllll better

I presume those that don't work receive the same services? I'm not trying to be a snark, but it does infuriate me. I have relatives getting some free perks, and I also find them very disturbing.

Gonna quit while I'm ahead, LOL.

Me, too. Some in-laws. It helps them be able to buy lots of electronics and name brand clothes.

Does MetroLink issue only a given # of tix? (IDTS, because, IIRC, tix are non-time specific)
Also recalled reading - fairly uncommon that conductors check passengers for tix.
IOW, free-riding (without buying tix)is common.

IOAW, little to prevent 'protesters' w. or w'out tix, from over crowding trains to keep out others going to the ballpark.

How many ppl ride on MetroLink to attend game?
How many ppl ride on MetroLink to get to work at ballpark itself or businesses close by, e.g. restaurants.

Is it poss or likely that targeting MetroLink will disrupt more ppl trying going to work than game attendees?
Any thoughts?

Depends on the time of day as far as work. Night games, it's usually predominately Cards fans, though those represent a small percentage that go to the games. If I had to guess, and it's a pure guess, if there are 45,000 people at a game, maybe several thousand take the metrolink.

Some do jump on without tickets, but that is easy enough to rectify. They do occasionally check tickets and people are given fines if no ticket.

I have no problem with them doing that, assuming they buy tickets. Don't think metrolink cares either. They're making their money either way. Plus, kinda hard to get cameras onto the trains so no one will know or care.

That's life in the city unfortunately IMO. Those 3 couples were going to get robbed whether MB incident happened or not unfortunately. My brother lives in south city near the shoe carnival and he has no concerns at all. They'll talk about Ferguson but not in terms of the riots spreading outside of Ferguson. Are there going to be the typical crimes/violence as there is every night in the city? Yepp. Will some of it, on this occasion be attributed to MB? Yepp. But by far and large, they're crimes that were going to happen regardless.

When I said 99% I was including surrounding areas, so I meant areas outside of St. Louis County, including St. Louis City, St. Charles County, Jefferson County and Franklin County. If only talking St. Louis County and St. Louis City solely, I'd guess 2/3 have no concerns. I really don't see any reason to worry unless you're in Ferguson/Jennings/etc. area. I could be wrong, but hope I'm right.

Re: Protesters goal of making people uncomfortable

It's dividing people more than ever. Those with this way of thinking are purposely widening wedge in community and have no thoughts of healing. If local LE is walking on eggshells due to DOJ, DOJ needs to allow LE to do their job. Mass arrests would quickly put an end to impromptu protests and acts of civil disobedience. Some may call it unlawful, brutality, unjust, I call it keeping the peace. How many times does that Korean shop owner have to replace his store front? Some have no respect for others and respect is a two way street, it is earned not entitled JMO.

I hope LE has vid from new cameras of Black LE being called racial slurs to their faces. Some residents are making claims, showing vids that are after the fact with no real proof, time LE shows DOJ and all what they are dealing with day in and day out.

from where I live & voices in the Soulard/Benton Park/Lafayette Square area, you are totally wrong in your assessment especially about those being robbed this past weekend in Lafayette Square as proven by an above link

Good for your brother -- my g-friend who lives off Gravois by the Shoe Carnival is scared $hitless as she is a single mother trying to make ends meet

No, that robbery wasn't just a normal occurrence there.

"We feel for our customers. This is an unfortunate incident," Hamilton said. "We've been here 11 years and nothing like this has ever happened. It's unfortunate that two young guys would do something like this."

Ummm, maybe not normal for that specific restaurant, but not extraordinary for the area. Heck, wasn't it the Darst-Webbe projects that were within walking distance of that restaurant. Yeah, they've tried to revitalize the area, tore down the housing projects because they were so riddled with crime and falling apart, but the crime didn't just disappear completely.

I could understand that but I would probably be scared to live down there even if this never happened if I were her. My brother happens to be 6'4" 300 lbs so while that won't stop a bullet, it's probably a little different than a woman living on her own with a kid. And yes, brother is a gentle giant who has been known to flash gang signs and wear a red bandana.

Amazing how the DOJ is given the trusted role of seeker and arbiter of truth about LE treatment of residents...

The same DOJ that wanted so much to keep that robbery video secret.

This is in the USA, 2014 & law-abiding, tax-paying, citizens should have better expectations of "life in the city." Don't throw everyone into the cesspool.

An American flag being purposely held upside down may not be illegal, but it is certainly offensive to me & many others!
