The DOJ lost any respect I had for them when they insisted on name badges. I don't think these officers are scared to wear their badges for their own safety, but for the safety of their family. After this shooting on the highway, I hope the DOJ reverses their decision, but I doubt they do.

How about people with outstanding warrants, felonies & pedophiles at high tier levels wear name badges since they pose a threat to the public at large ?

Just sayin'

yeah that ^^^^^

Or maybe in lieu of name badges for the criminals, they could tattoo it on themselves. Maybe that would become all the rage? Tats with your name & convictions + outstanding warrants/charges??

So relieved to get on this morning and find no deaths overnight.

The only thing I can see at this point is either lock it down - Martial law or a big azz mass exodus. Let em loot, riot and shoot each other

:(

There doesn't seem to be a whole brain cell left among any of these haters.

I've been tossing and turning all night, thinking about all the dominoes these shootings set in motion. :(

I think my biggest worry is the chance that it could lead to the appointment of a special prosecutor. :waitasec:

IIRC, that threat was removed when the governor ended the state of emergency. Does anyone know the ins & outs regarding that possibility?

I have a terrible feeling that this was set in motion by that group, for the family to achieve its urgent desire for a special prosecutor.

I want to say a big thanks to the LEO's of our country. This is really out of control and the language we heard last night regarding LEO's and their lives is just ' CRIMINAL'. Threatening anyone is a crime, much less LE. I have 2 cousins , in a different state, married to LEO's. There are 6 children between them . Only one is older 10 yrs old. Last night I was thinking about if they lived there and my cousins had to send their husbands out on the streets with crowds vowing to gun them down. How would you do that? Big badge of honor to the FPD who are at work this morning and still trying to hold together a town that is , in my opinion , lost. I'm imagining the streets of Mogadishu and dragging a soldier's body down the streets and how barbaric and animal that seems and thinking that could happen in Ferguson if they got one officer down.
I do not know what my opinion is on the MB shooting. I won't debate it or share it because I don't even know what I think . But , whatever anyone thinks of that event, it should NOT have led to this ! This is not a protest. This is not civil. This is not humane. This is mass hysteria by its very definition and when and how will it stop ?
We need COOLER heads to PREVAIL and immediately!!!!!!!!! :please:

If I'm caught up correctly, the shot-in-the-arm cop doesn't have a life-threatening injury and is recovering in hospital and the perp is still at large. The shot-in-the-car cop wasn't actually hit by a bullet, just by flying glass, and the perps are still at large. And no other cops attacked, no one else shot, and no other major news overnight. Does that sound right?

Whew. Thank heavens the two cops weren't killed and that nothing else happened. I woke up afraid that I was going to get online and learn that even more mayhem had ensued during the night.

Does anyone know whatever happened with the report of the one suspect being found in a house and surrounded?

Twitter's burning up with hatred, suspicion & paranoia. Never mind that in both of these shootings cops were attacked. The cops are the bad guys, always and forever. The thugs in the area can do wrong and are always innocent, no matter what. Mostly, they seem to think that these 2 shootings were a set-up by the cops to justify a crackdown on the protesters. At least one person is convinced that the cop shooter is white and that the cops are refusing to release that information. There's joy and happiness that a cop was shot.

It's bad -- very bad -- that not one but two cops were shot in one night in separate incidents. It's even worse that the haters reacted the way they did. I'm just disgusted to the very core of my being.

Of course it was.

Ferguson police officer shot in the arm; off-duty cop also comes under fire
By Ben Brumfield and Carma Hassan, CNN

'Johnson told a group of demonstrators after the shooting.
He also said some people who took part in protests over Brown's shooting have threatened to kill a police officer.'

I'm very glad he said that, even if it was an understatement.

It's going to take a lot to convince me that these were coincidental.

JMO, but there were so many hints that something was going to go down last night. I won't try to list them - you all probably could do it better.

But two that bugged me were 1.the way screamer put off of the meeting until today instead of saying Saturday was OK... But the things were ready yesterday. And 2. the tweet by her(?) that says something like "OK, everyone, it's starting now," as soon as she saw all the cop cars racing up the street.

What is that group's name? Lost... Something. (my mind is numb)

I think most of the prots are foul, willing tools of these others.

Where was Umar? Shahid?

Funny that even the DM story speaks about how peaceful the protesters were. No mention of cheers for officers rumored death and then near riot when thinking an imaginary boy was shot and killed. Also mentions cops "brazenly" wearing the bracelets. I wish they would get it over with and announce no true Bill. They are probably hoping to do it during a major snowstorm or something. Honestly, if the shooting happened during the polar vortex we would have never heard about it.

I am disgusted with this as well but pretty much have lost my sympathy for the police. Consider the fact they let that really bad guy go last night and he had warrants.

At this point they are pretty much condoning the behavior.

There is no federal or local law that name badges are worn are there? Local policy right? DOJ comes in and dictates enforcement of an internal policy? I don't envy Chief Jackson. These people are <mod snip>.

I always go with leave the page because I have learned it is a dbl post. However, if you do this and you lose your post...don't come hunting me down.

So far as I know, it's policy, not law. IMO, they need to change that policy yesterday.

The shooting of the off-duty cop is majorly concerning. Yes, it's remotely possible that it was a random drive-by shooting, but it seems far more likely that the cop was specifically targeted.

I hope they don't wait until a cop's wife or child is killed before changing that policy.

And all these shooters are on the loose. The search and investigation is going to be impossible to conduct without evoking irrational paranoia and accusations of "profiling" and "harassment."

A friggin' tragedy all around.
It would be great if we could crack down hard, but only if we can do it without DC getting in and bringing a special prosecutor.

Sigh.

:offtobed: again...

I believe they are being forced - think DOJ.

My opinion only

I'm not going to blame the police for anything they've done with their necks under the boots of political powers from the DOJ, the PR groups the city assigned to them, the governor, media, all the way to the president.

I have nothing but pity for the police themselves. They can't win with all the people they have to please.

All those people pulling their strings from the safety of their offices are who I hold responsible for every decision made.
