Stats match up for the most part. My only question would be how’d she go almost 8 years living nearby without anyone noticing. And did she willing leaving her child/children behind?

go for it. there can be a lot of reasons. she might have come back to the area...

I wonder if KI stands for K---- Institute, instead of K---- I---- High School. I found a few K-something Institutes, but I think the ones I found had changed their names since 1966.

Also wondering if this could be a mother's ring, but I've never seen one with initials before. It would be really helpful if we had a picture of it...

Could it be H I????

Haskell Institute was founded in nearby Lawrence, Kansas as a BIA boarding school. The school was renamed Haskell Indian Junior College around the 1970's and is now Haskell Indian Nations University:

oh wow, it could be.. good find. unfortuneately their 1966 yearbook is not on classmates, only on "e-yearbooks", which i still have to check out..

An alumni association is terrific! Just saying yeah or nay on the ring would help & a missing woman would be a big step.

Thanks!

I'm thinking on getting on the nerves of LO. Maybe they'd be willing to upload some photos....

Photos would be helpful.

I've only contacted the LE listed on NAMUS a couple times -- but both responding officers were prompt & very nice about the whole thing!

IMHO, no LE agency has enough $$$ to pay someone to work all these cases. They don't mind us looking at the details & trying to match things up.

Seems to be a different Medical Examiner now:

Sleepless nights are productive nights. I wrote to the ME. Now we wait....

Good find! When I look up the school, though, I see it called 'JHS 166' (standing for Junior High School) or 'IS 166' (dont know what that stands for) without a K? Do you know what the K would stand for?
Also, for all you Americans out there, would it be normal to get a class ring for middle school?

In one of the sources I saw, the "K" is actually the beginning of the building number K I66 for the particular school. "The school has been housed in building K166 (“K166”) located at 800 Van Siclen Avenue, Brooklyn since 2006." The UFT Charter School :: History Which in itself is confusing, as it is describing a charter school that opened in 2006, way after the death. Other sources make K166 the George Gershwin Junior High School.

For the class ring, it isn't completely unheard of. I would guess that the ring was more likely to be because she was a faculty member, teacher, etc.

Some places in the US have schools that only go to 8th grade (the students attend high schools in another town, usually a bigger one able to support the larger school,) and generally those students can purchase a class ring to mark completing 8th grade & their years in that school.

No idea how popular that was in 1966?

Not an expert in the New York Public Schools, but at one point they only had numbers, like PS 166 indicating Public School 166.

That building is not George Gershwin today but Richard Rodgers serving gifted & talented:

NO idea if schools in Kansas City where ever identified by numbers?

I could stand for Independent, ISD for Independent School District is common.

The city of Independence in is Jackson County. Does the I stand for Independence?

NO idea what buildings would have been active in 1966.

Maybe Ruth Muriel Egnoski?

The height and weight add up, she disappeared in 1964 (charley project says it may have been as late as 1966) as an 18 year old, she'd be 33 at the time Jane Doe died. Hair color matches; brown. Muriels eye color is not noted. She disappeared from Delavan, Wisconsin which is a 7.5 hour drive. Maybe she left her family, got married to someone with the last initial K, and her family never heard from her again.

This is from November of 2002. Kind of a misleading title; she wasn't matched to any remains but police identified her as the subject of investigation. Also this article says she disappeared in 1966, as opposed to the NAMUS entry which says 1964.

There are a few more articles that show she was an active member in the local Baptist Youth Fellowship.
