The Cowley County Kansas Sheriff’s Office Wednesday, May 21, requested volunteers to help search for missing 81-year-old Jerry McConnell, the subject of the Statewide Silver Alert.

McConnell’s car was located in rural Cowley County. The Sheriff has requested volunteers to assist with a full grid-search on Thursday, May 22, at 10 a.m. in the 4000 block of 327th Road, Cambridge, Kan.

"Volunteers should park along the dirt road and be prepared to navigate rough terrain. Further instructions will be given upon check-in."

The location is SE of Wichita, Kan. just north of U.S. 160. Nearly 200 miles away from her residence in Overland Park.

  1. A staging area has been set up at the Kansas Department of Transportation strip just west of 303rd Road on the north side of US 160, you will need to park there and then ride to the search area by bus.
  2. We will turn any non-first responders around and direct them to the staging area described in number 1. if volunteers try to drive to the ranch on their own.
  3. This is strictly a walking search, so no horses side by sides or four wheelers on the property
  4. Once you are transported to the ranch you will be required to check in and give your personal information
  5. Bring your own water, snacks, sunscreen and bug repellent.
  6. Please take your trash with you
  7. Any gate that is opened must be closed behind you. These properties have cattle on them so please do not try to have contact or try to pet the cattle
  8. The time to meet at the KDOT strip is 10:00 am. There is no way to gauge how many volunteers we will have, and although we are grateful for their service we may have to limit the numbers to a controllable number.
  9. Please be patient
  10. The landowners have requested that the media not come onto the ranch and video, again this is private property
  11. Lastly, when you are assigned, an area please search only that area. All outbuildings and residences, tank batteries have already been searched by first responders and are clear

McConnell was supposed to be on her way back to Overland Park from Harrisonville, Missouri, but ranchers at the Ferguson Ranch in Cowley County located her car on the property on May 19th.

Falletti says it's unclear why McConnell stopped at the ranch, but her car had a full tank of gas. Her family believes she may be in the early stages of dementia.

The Cowley County sheriff says no additional searches are planned for Jerry McConnell, an 81-year-old Kansas woman who disappeared three weeks ago.

Remains have been found about a mile away from where Jerry’s car was abandoned. An autopsy has been scheduled to determine identity. I believe it is presumed to be Jerry :(
