Circumstances of Disappearance:
Smith was last seen in the suburb of Strafford where he resided near Springfield, Missouri on February 15, 2001. He has never been seen or heard from since.
The next day, Smith's girlfriend, Maureen Webb, was en route to visit him from Bolivar, Missouri when she also disappeared. On March 11, Webb's black 1990 Ford Aerostar van was found abandoned at Battlefield mall. Her purse was located inside the vehicle. There was no sign of Smith or Webb.
In 2006, Richard Evans and his wife, Thenia, were charged with two counts of first-degree murder in the presumed deaths of Smith and Webb. Evans was accused of shooting the couple and dismembering their bodies, which were fed to pigs. What remained was burned and thrown into a nearby pond. A search of Evans's property turned up bone fragments and a spent shell casing, but the charges against him were later dropped due to a witness refusing to testify. Smith has never been recovered.
