Police looking for convicted murderer who wandered away from St. Louis veterans home

Bellefontaine Neighbors Police Department has issued an "endangered person" advisory for convicted murderer Jon Bedford Stacey, who left the Missouri Veterans Home sometime after midnight on Friday.

[...]

Stacey was convicted of first-degree murder in Kansas, according to that state's Department of Corrections records. News accounts about his case could not be located. Thompson said Saturday that Stacey was not in custody at the home but may be on "probation or on parole."

"He has left the home before but always returned within hours," said Thompson, who thought Stacey might have left to buy alcohol. The home is located at 10600 Lewis and Clark Blvd. in St. Louis.

"There was some belief that he left in a taxi, but we checked, and there were no calls around midnight," he said.

Anyone with knowledge of Stacey's whereabouts can call 911 or Bellefontaine Neighbors Police.

What in the ever loving blazes. According the pic in his arrest record he was arrested less than six years ago for murder 1... how is this guy just out and about without anyone knowing his status? With the way court cases get dragged along these days he might be out on bail for all we know, and on the run now. Or is this another case of Lady Justice going easy on 'the elderly'? That's really starting to become a pet peeve of mine lately. Just for comparison, the Rolling Stones' ages are in the low to mid 70's (Mick Jagger is 73, Charlie Watts 75) and they're touring just fine this year, with shows every 3-4 days. Old does not mean incapacitated and incapable...

(Edit - oh wait, he's been convicted of murder 1. Still doesn't explain why nobody knows his status and why he's just out and about).

That pic is from his parole agent. He must have transferred his parole to MO from KS.

Glad he is safe but still wondering what happened to his life sentence? Odd.
