I wonder if this could be Mr. Elvin Crist, missing from Lawrence, KS since December 10, 1996. Lawrence is about 30 miles away from the location where the body was found. According to the Lawrence Journal-World Mr. Crist disappeared after work one day; his truck was found at the University of Kansas and some of his checks were unsuccessfully cashed afterwards. If he were murdered for his possessions I could see the culprit driving across the state line to confuse detectives.
