I need more understanding of the mushroom hunting.
Is it a hobby?
A living?
For personal consumption?
Sold at farmers markets?
Used in restaurants?
All/Some of the above?
Someone please enlighten me!!


I guess I could google...but the reason I bring it up here is because I have recently seen mention of this on other threads too and (honestly) I kind of (totally) brushed it off. And then boom, a mushroom hunter stumbles upon these remains.

I guess I could google...but the reason I bring it up here is because I have recently seen mention of this on other threads too and (honestly) I kind of (totally) brushed it off. And then boom, a mushroom hunter stumbles upon these remains.

Most people go out an hunt them for personal use. They are delicious dipped in egg batter and rolled in flour and corn meal. As soon as spring hits we head to the woods looking for the morels.

I am relieved that the family will now have closure, but heartbroken for them all the same.

It never gets any easier, even when it's expected. Her poor family. I hope Kara's family doesn't have to wait much longer.

I have never wanted to hop a plane and hug someone in one of these cases more than I do right now.

I wonder if KY worked for the quarry in the past or if someone close to him worked there. He could familiarize himself with the land, the hours, etc... It seems to be an active quarry so I wouldn't think it would be a good spot for high school hangout. Abandoned quarries IME make better dirt biking, party spots. They generally don't dig right up to the road and leave a buffer of trees for aesthetics. There appear to be many quarries in the area from the satellite view. Wonder if he has stashed evidence or others at alternate locations.
