I have a friend from Michigan, and he refers to his son as "the kid" all the time. I have never found it strange at all. He only has that one child.

I refer to my daughter as "the kid", however, she is 24 years old. Her step dad refers to her as "your kid" when she wants something and "our kid" when she does something nice. However, we both refer to her by her first name when we are talking to people that know her. If we are talking to people that don't know her, i refer to her as "my daughter".

As I type this, I find myself automatically avoiding her name, not because I don't want to call her by name but because I want to protect her from people that don't know her. That maternal instinct to protect our children from strangers, lurkers, and even the media could just be coming automatically for the parents during these interviews. Even though they know they need to get her name out there, the parental instinct to protect our child's identity from strangers is probably quite strong regardless of the situation.

Just saying.

Early Monday evening NBC Action News received a grand jury subpoena in relation to the search for 10-month-old Lisa Irwin search.

The Clay County Prosecutor's Office is asking for specific footage.

The office has requested any raw video of any interviews given by family, friends of family and neighbors regarding the missing girl.

Raw video. Something not shown yet that they think may be important...

Is this normal procedure before arresting anyone? I thought evidence was brought to a grand jury before going to trial so LE know what charges would be filed? I've never heard of it being done before anyone is arrested.

Think Ramsey case. The gj heard the case and they were never arrested. It can work both ways.

I've seen grand juries seated as an investigation tool when LE is having a hard time getting info or has reached a dead end. This happens usually alot further into an investigation when a case is about to or has gone cold.

So there's something in the news footage that LE is interested in. Okay, WSers, what have we seen on the news? The house? Her room? Outside of home? Anything else that would have 'evidence'? I'm baffled.

They searced the gutters last night. And did a search in the neighbor's house and yard today. And they are getting video of media interviews with neighbors. All of those are new.

I'm betting money this is about the parents and not the teen.

I apologize for bringing up the subject of chips being used on animals and someday on babies....like I said it is probably off the wall.

My thinking was if it was a way to find our missing children very fast it would be well worth it..

Didn't mean to create a controversy......

I don't know anything about what a grand jury entails. Can someone fill me in? How long does it take to get one together? Is is public so we will know everything that goes on and that is presented? What is the purpose of a grand jury? TIA

They are almost never made public...
Usually a grand jury is already seated for a certain period of time, so they just go to that one. They are usually done in order to see if they have enough to seek an indictment.

I'm seeing it done this way more and more these days. This is how they did it in Kyron Horman's disappearance, but they never finished convening.

Maybe they like it when a missing person/child hasn't been located? But they want to make an arrest, of that we can be sure.

Hi Feisty !
I wondered a/b this too, but, if Jeremy just started taking anti depressant's, when Lisa disappeared, they most likely have not effected him yet. Usually anti depressant's take a couple of weeks to start working. I was on Lexapro long time ago, and I too had the same experience. So that being said, his flat affect bothers me some, there is a pic of him and Debra, where she is leaning into him with her head on his chest, and instead of comforting her, his hands are in his pockets ? :waitasec:

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/art...napping--casting-new-doubt-parents-story.html

It's true about Lexapro, though.Expressing emotions, you don't get the low ,lows or the high ,high's. Everything hits you about the middle of the road.

That's why it's so difficult to assume we know what anyone should be doing or saying or how they should be acting (with the exception of Casey and Cindy Anthony :innocent: ). We don't what's going on with them.

In this article:

http://www.kansascity.com/2011/10/10/3199043/kc-police-search-backyard-of-missing.html

it talks about a young homeless man who had been in the neighborhood. Here's from the article:

Excerpt:

Nichols said he also saw the man about a week or two before Lisa was reported missing but not afterward. The two men spoke briefly at a nearby park weeks ago. The man told Nichols that he was looking for a job or any handy jobs in the neighborhood.

“He made me feel real uncomfortable,” Nichols said. “Something was not right, so I eased off from him.”

Does this take the pressure off of the DA? I mean they will present it to a group of citizens to see if the evidence is there, is that correct.

Where oh where are our verified lawyers, when we need them?

Exactly. I was on my county's grand jury for six months but wasn't ever called.

Maybe the teen was sneaking a cigarette at the Irwin's? If a cigarette butt was found, they would want to verify via DNA if it was from someone who had been there, or a stranger?
Just a thought

Good thinking-- I would've never thought of that!!

Please don't be sorry. We all have our differing opinions...but we are all here for the same thing. No biggie!
