The Boone County Prosecutor's Office filed charges Friday against a man arrested in connection with a double homicide investigation in Columbia.

Randall Russell Fox, 51, faces two counts of second-degree murder, two counts of armed criminal action and one count of tampering with evidence. Fox is currently being held in Boone County Jail without bond.

From the linked article, it sounds like he killed the women, then moved into the house and stayed there. The photo of him that's been posted in the news media is one taken from the police officer's bodycam when they came to the house to check on the women. He told police that he went on a walk and, when he returned, the women were gone. Yeah.

The officer reported not seeing anyone other than Fox, but also said they found items belonging to one of the missing women. Fox told the officer he'd last seen the victims on May 8, alleging they had disappeared after he returned from a walk.
Body camera footage of the interaction shows the officer checking the basement, according to the probable cause statement. During that check, Fox reportedly told the officer he may sense a bad smell, which he attributed to sleeping bags in a closet.

I have a hunch this guy had been homeless for a while, living outdoors. He has very worn, mismatched clothing and is very tanned. He wanted to move back in with his ex and her mother. When they refused, he became angry and killed them. JMO

Both women were shot and their bodies stuffed into a closet in the basement of the home.

Really surprises LE didn't obtain a warrant on Saturday when they first noticed the smell in the basement.

I wonder who gave LE permission to search the home. If LE had permission to search they should have looked in the closet, not taken Fox word that the smell was due to sleeping bags and moved on, not coming back for four days.

I wondered the same. This seems like it went on longer than it needed to. It's a good thing the killer decided to stick around town instead of disappearing.

Though Columbia PD sees some serious crimes these days, its main focus is on the students attending the University of Missouri. Had the killer been in his early 20's and holding a noisy party at the house, they would have handled it differently.

Their big money comes from roughing up and overcharging boisterous college students so they can fleece the out of state parents. I'm glad the Mo State Police were there to help. JMO
