MO - Megan Meier, 13, Mentally Abused, Commits Suicide

 • #281
The woman linked to a fake MySpace profile of a 16-year-old boy created to start an Internet relationship with Megan Meier, the Missouri teen who hanged herself after receiving hurtful messages, is now believed to be the victim of a cyber-bullying impersonator herself.

And the online harassment laws that were passed after Meier's death last year now may be used to help the middle-aged woman, who many believe was responsible for the 13-year-old girl's suicide.

:boohoo: Oh for Pity's sake!!! Well, I'm glad I was very careful to only state my opinion of her actions and not go further! You think she was trying to martyr herself with that blog? Wouldn't put it past a drama-addict like her to do so.

This is a perfect example of why people shouldn't act as vigilantes. This hoax website was created to infuriate those who already hate Lori Drew and want her to pay for her actions. How is this any better than what she did? Because she did it first to Megan? I don't buy that. People should KNOW BETTER. We can't want a law for person but not for another.

Is it me or was that Fox article alittle unclear? Lori Drew's atty says its not her,but that other blog thing, says nobody has told them that its not legit and it is still up.They would shut it down if it was a hoax. So which is it?

I have been to this blog and, there are people on there who are wishing this woman bodily harm and much worse. Those peoople I do not agree with nor some of the language that is being used. There are others though like myself who have expressed an opnion that what she did was awful and I think there is nothing wrong with saying so. How is this any better than what she did? Lori Drew was a grown adult who did this to a 13yo child that is the difference. Any anger that has been directed at her she earned all on hear own. This is a consequence of her behavior. This is why as young children I have tried to teach my kids that there are consequences to every action, positive or negative. It is evident by her behavior that this is something she has never been taught. Well hard lesson learned huh! It is time for her to stand up and take responsibility for her actions.

Another thing that I wanted to mention is that I am not sure if Lori Drew actually created this blog or not. If she did I would say that she is an even bigger IDIOT than I already think she is.

I'm with you, Masterj. I guess all of us screaming for stronger laws regarding cyber-harrassment should be happy that they are now in place to help Drew.

The whole thing really is a headscratcher.

Guys, let me disagree with you just a tad, although I am somewhat neutral. This is a quote from the people who run the blog:

"Once we are notified about a blog that impersonates a person, we act quickly to remove it. We have not received an impersonation claim to date from the individual allegedly being impersonated."

Her attorney making a statement is not sufficient. It would have been simple enough for them to put a stop to the blog, right? Isn't this a little curious?

Thanks, believe. My jury is still out as to whether or not the blog is hers because of the very reasons you mention but my post was a little muddled.

I was more considering the irony of a law she helped create assisting her if it did turn out she was being harrassed. I guess the veracity of the blog will come out eventually.

I knew what you meant SCM, I think! I am with you...I just find her attorney to be the smoke and mirrors type, lol.

I've worked with a few attorneys in my life and you are right - they are damage control experts!!!

It completely depends on the person. I was shunned, beaten, and verballly/emotionally abused by my peers as a teen. I don't think it's a dog eat dog world, and I am not bent on "getting mine, before others take it from me, even if I have to use force". ;) :twocents:

I am sorry about that, KatK. :blowkiss: My youngest sister also suffered this type of abuse as a young and teenaged girl and she has grown into one of the wisest, kindest, most compassionate people I know.

You make a great point that many of us can grow past that sort of trauma. Drew, of course, is damaged - by what I don't know - but damaged nonetheless given her callous response to the role she played in this young girl's suicide.

They believed that before, when people were nice and normal to them - so I don't think being nice to them will 'fix' them. The world treated them well, plenty of success too - and that didn't make them good people, maybe the opposite will wake them up.

But they can fix it anytime they like. Apologize and show sincere remorse - and 99% of it will go away.

I agree with that statement 110%! The Drew's response to all of this is at best, abhorrent and at worst, evil.

DARDENNE PRAIRIE, Mo. — Waterford Crystal Drive is one of those suburban streets that seem so new as to have no history at all. But the suicide of a teenage girl — and allegations she had been tormented by a neighbor over the Internet — have brought a reaction that is old, almost tribal, in its nature.

Am I wrong to feel no sadness at this? The woman had it coming.......

I agree,it would help if they "sincerely",apoligized. If for some stupid reason,I were involved in something like this,I would get on National TV and "fall on the sword". eg for forgiveness, whatever it took. These people still don't seem to get it,and are creating more problems for themselves. I don't agree with the vigilante thing, but being shunned is ok.

I laughed at this quote. ""I just really hope that no one comes out here and does something insane," Buckles said. "If they do, I hope they get the right house.""

Hey, I can be evil too. Hehe.

So... her attorney issued the following statement:

<Contrary to statements reported in various news media around the nation in recent weeks, Lori Drew did not create or direct anyone to create the Josh Evans MySpace account. Although she was aware of the account, Lori Drew never sent any messages to Megan or to anyone else using this MySpace account.

Lori Drew was not aware of any mean, nasty or negative comments made by anyone against Megan until after Megan took her own life. In fact, the first negative message was sent by a teenager from another residence, and several other negative comments were made by other teenagers at different locations. The negative comments that were sent by the teenage girl at the Drew’s residence occurred when Lori was not home.

The Drew family is also sorry that their family, friends and neighbors have had to endure the stresses associated with the harassment directed toward the Drews.
There are many accusations that various members of the Drew family have created Web sites or are participating in Internet blogs regarding this matter. The Drews have not and will not participate in any Website or blog regarding this matter.
Any Internet message that purports to be a member of the Drew family is being managed by an imposter and undoubtedly is being done for the purpose of further damaging the Drew’s reputation.>

Are we all being mislead by hearsay? Is this the Salem witch trials revisited?
So.. if the idea that Lori Drew was behind all this (created a fake internet persona), and said all these things to Megan, is s LIE...... then who started that lie?? Do we even have any idea what is the real story in this case??

If she was aware of the account, then she knew that a fake boy was created to harass Megan.

Lori Drew and an employee, referred to only as a teenager named Ashley in the report, created a fake MySpace page so they could monitor what Megan was saying online about Drew's daughter, the report said. Ashley sent Megan most of the messages from "Josh," and Lori Drew was aware of them, prosecutors said.

http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,315823,00.html

I wonder if Ashley sent most of the messages. Still, once Lori found out what had happened, you'd think she'd be apologizing for allowing it to happen!
