Is there another article that names the partner? I thought Hellmeier was the Sgt.

You are correct, Hellmeier is the Sergeant.
The partner has not yet been named.

ST. LOUIS – Defense attorney Scott Rosenblum is known for defending clients charged with high-profile crimes. In this case, he’s looking at many angles, ranging from a possible civil lawsuit to being a watchdog over the investigation of a St. Louis police officer who shot and killed a colleague.

“They’re interested in making sure the investigation is adequate, complete, and thorough, and they’ve engaged us to make sure that happens,” Rosenblum said.

Rosenblum wouldn’t say what he thinks about the St. Louis police investigation into Officer Nathanial Hendren but he said you can’t avoid hearing criticisms from St. Louis Circuit Attorney Kim Gardner.
[...]
Rosenblum added: “So when we have a situation like that, obviously the family’s going to have questions.”

Officer Alix’s mother, father, and sister met with Rosenblum to make sure their daughter’s death would be investigated thoroughly. They said she does not deserve to be the subject of sensational rumors.

Officer Hendren, who shot Alix, will be arraigned Thursday at 9 a.m. His attorney also plans to argue lowering his current cash-only bond conditions of $50,000.

I am curious if Rosenblum also met with Alix’s husband.

I am sure they will do their best, but the crime scene was not secured and I am sure that evidence has been tainted.

I'm no way privy to the internal investigation, but I did see media with crime scene tape at the residence where shooting occurred, and also surrounding the police vehicle parked at the hospital. I'm assuming this was vehicle used to transport victim. I don't think we can say for sure if scene was not secured but I hope Officer Alix receives the attention/investigation any fallen officer deserves. MOO

This article concentrates on Alix’s funeral, and has some very good photographs of the event. I especially liked the photo of the many vehicles lined up.

Me too.

I don't believe husband retained Rosenblum , but as I said before, he probably doesn't want to be the Officer spearing an investigation of his brothers in blue.

Is it officer before husband, or a husband before officer?

All I know is that this appeared to be a completely avoidable situation.

MOO

this is a great discussion and it was great to catch up and see my own questions and concerns raised by others too. feels validating somehow.

regarding the third officer - either he saw it or he didn't.

if he saw it - he is not coming forward bc he wants to protect himself, protect his partner, or protect the department. yes? He could be holding back on his own volition or bc he was told to hold back.

if he did not see it - bc he left uncomfortable with the alleged RR? I find that hardest to believe and the worst response to keep himself out of it. could have been in the bathroom. or making a sandwich. why not say either of those? either would give them a semi plausible reason to be at the house.

is the real answer also not good? like he was giving them time to be alone? for sex or drugs? or what? why else would he not see what happened?

Yup, you’re echoing the thoughts that many of us have about this case.

Even with the most innocent explanation, these officers look really bad.

This is a mess.

and then I think omg what if this is the real story. no cover. or little cover.

if the rookies are doing this - in a time when they are new and held to a higher standard - if this is the cultural norm - then what the hell are others doing? and where can we start in holding folks accountable?

I can also understand the alleged cocaine use bc these officers are working way too much overtime. and for way too little $. and they are in over their heads with staff shortages and support. they need to use the coke to maintain physically. and they need to sell the coke to maintain financially. sadly. and what resources and encouragement is there for officers to handle their emotional maintenance? slim to none.

this event - however it ends up - is a cry for help on a million different levels.

Quotes from:
Timeline established for 2 on-duty officers in the hours before Katlyn Alix was killed

Hendren and his partner were together as they responded to two calls before the shooting, both in the second district.

The first call, right about 11:00, came for an assault at a senior facility but it turned out to be nothing.

15 minutes after that call ended, they were called to a burglary alarm off Manchester at 11:48 p.m.

That call was coded as a false alarm.

By 12:14 a.m., they were back in service.

By 12:56, the shooting had happened at Hendren's home on Dover in the first district in Carondelet.

The call went out as an officer in need of aid.

MOO... This just makes the whole thing screwier! So these 2 drove out of their district, met with KA at the apartment, played RRR and the shooting happened all in 42 minutes?

There was NO game of RRR. They were meeting there for a reason. Not enough time to do much but a tragedy occurred anyway.

Looking at the funeral pictures just sickens me and I want answers for this family. That's the least they deserve.

OMG...I just Google Mapped from the last call to the apartment. It takes 19 minutes to drive. Even if they hedged a little on the "back in service" call, that still narrows the time at the apartment even more.

If it doesn't make sense, even the tiniest bit, then it didn't happen that way. I know I'm preaching to the choir here but if WE ALL can see it then why does LE expect their citizens to believe it either? Looking at the black eye, I seriously suspect it wasn't his head at all that broke out the windshield or gave him that shiner.

If the truth is that the RR story is fiction, IMO it raises the chance that this was intentional rather than accidental. If truly accidental, why make up a story like this one?

And if this story was made up, doesn't that in turn implicate the partner as somehow being involved? If for nothing else than obstruction and falsifying a police report?

Is it just me, or do KA's husband and NH look a lot alike?

Probably just me. JMO.

GordianKnot, other than the fact they both have dark hair, IMO they look quite different.

I thought the same thing - not like siblings, but the same type.

Haaa. If you look at the funeral procession photos, half of the men in uniform resemble NH! As for husband and NH, at close look, nah - I don't see it.
