Not meaning to cast aspersions on LE at all, but I would expect “body building” to be an off-duty pursuit of many in this dangerous vocation. And I would not judge them one bit if some resorted to steroid use to bulk up, though it is an illegal activity. It is a tough tough call for sure. I think the similarities we are seeing among those in attendance at the very sad funeral service yesterday fall in this area IMHO.

Quotes from:
Timeline established for 2 on-duty officers in the hours before Katlyn Alix was killed

Hendren and his partner were together as they responded to two calls before the shooting, both in the second district.

The first call, right about 11:00, came for an assault at a senior facility but it turned out to be nothing.

15 minutes after that call ended, they were called to a burglary alarm off Manchester at 11:48 p.m.

That call was coded as a false alarm.

By 12:14 a.m., they were back in service.

By 12:56, the shooting had happened at Hendren's home on Dover in the first district in Carondelet.

The call went out as an officer in need of aid.

MOO... This just makes the whole thing screwier! So these 2 drove out of their district, met with KA at the apartment, played RRR and the shooting happened all in 42 minutes?

There was NO game of RRR. They were meeting there for a reason. Not enough time to do much but a tragedy occurred anyway.

Looking at the funeral pictures just sickens me and I want answers for this family. That's the least they deserve.
Because I grew up in and continue to live in a bubble and have no idea - generally speaking, how long does a drug take to put someone under the influence enough to impair judgment? How does this timeline impact that theory? (Assuming that their radio traffic prior to this incident was legitimate).

It depends on the drug & method of consumption. Examples: Crack cocaine more or less immediately. Injected drugs: few seconds. Pills take at least 15 minutes.

Or something like steroids that build up in the body over time, resulting in "roid rage".

and then I think omg what if this is the real story. no cover. or little cover.

if the rookies are doing this - in a time when they are new and held to a higher standard - if this is the cultural norm - then what the hell are others doing? and where can we start in holding folks accountable?

I can also understand the alleged cocaine use bc these officers are working way too much overtime. and for way too little $. and they are in over their heads with staff shortages and support. they need to use the coke to maintain physically. and they need to sell the coke to maintain financially. sadly. and what resources and encouragement is there for officers to handle their emotional maintenance? slim to none.

this event - however it ends up - is a cry for help on a million different levels.

I respectfully disagree about any justification for officers to use and/or sell cocaine. If the physical demands are too great, they should find another career.

Police officer pay in St. Louis is pretty good, not to mention benefits that most workers of their generation don't receive: quality health insurance and generous pensions and retirement benefits.

Average pay for an officer in St. Louis is in the range of $53,000 yr. , low range is $43,000. Officers receive overtime pay, also something rare for the jobs most people of their age range (late 20's to early 30's).

JMO, there's zero justification for any officer to partake in or sell illegal drugs. Hope that isn't the situation here, at this point we don't know.

Just checking in. Wow, the timeline is very short.

O/T is the right side of the screen in Chinese for anyone else?

Yes! Weird. It has happened before for me. Must be a glitch.

Bond increased for St. Louis police officer accused of fatally shooting co-worker

Nathaniel Hendren’s bond was increased from $50,000 to $100,000 Thursday morning. The $100,000 bond can be cash or surety and if he can post it, he will be under house arrest. He would also be required to give up any weapons and his passport.

Hendren appeared in person, for the first time. Alix's family was also there during the court hearing. Alix's husband was also in attendance.

Surety is defined as a person who takes responsibility for another's performance of an undertaking, for example their appearing in court or the payment of a debt.

After a stern talking to by Judge Roither – he said Hendren should have known better and although the shooting was ‘accidental’ there were several intentional acts that lead to the fatal shooting.

I did not intend to justify cocaine sale/use. just trying to look at possible motives for meeting and lying about the nature of the meeting.

and yes, SLMPD police start at $42,000ish. While other municipalities nearby start at least $10,000ish higher and have less crime to fight. It is an issue in recruiting and keeping officers. and overtime pay is great until you reach the line when you are sacrificing quality of life and quality of work performance to pay bills.

again, not justifying anything. just observations.

Much more detail on this morning's court appearance. Worth the read.

Judge raises bond on St. Louis police officer charge with shooting colleague, but makes it easier to post

In court Thursday, Alix's husband, Anthony Meyer spoke, but it was inaudible to spectators. During the rest of the hearing, he alternated between staring at Hendren and Hendren's relatives, who were sitting behind Hendren in court.
Thanks for the link. I like what the judge had to say. Hopefully that sort of thinking will prevail as he goes through trial.

ITA 100%

"Roither said that unholstering the gun, unloading and reloading it and pointing it at someone else were all intentional acts, repeating,'That was an intentional act" after each stage that led to the shooting."
