Finally named the partner.
Their area to patrol is also noted now. They were as far away from their patrol area as they could get.
Both were drinking while on duty.
My phone isn't letting me link for some reason. Look on stltoday.com . Press conference this afternoon, I don't know what time
FinaFin got i hope

Here ya go...
Drinking on duty allegations against St. Louis officers involved in shooting death of off-duty officer

The presser is at 2:00 pm. Police Chief Hayden is supposed to speak. Don't have much faith that we will hear more than we already know. On going investigation and all...

OMG.... WOW... thank y'all for sharing this link.

A detective??? Admittedly, I don't know a thing about the inner workings of law enforcement, but why would a detective be on patrol assignments?

Can't help but wonder if this is the same Lt. Brown named in Gardner's letter to Chief Hayden accusing the Department of "obstructionist" tactics.

Sounds like Lt. Brown was on it immediately to me.

There are a few possibilities I can see,

Detective Riordan was under some sort of discipline, or he was monitoring Officer Hendren.

Maybe there are other reasons, I don't know.

Either way, he is on a slippery slope, and definitely should have been more responsible when seeing other officers playing with guns. There is a point where you have to throw a partner under the bus, before you get sucked under too. He should have called in as soon as possible when beer, and gun play started, for CYA.

I guess that needs to be added to the administrative rules.

1. When your partner goes home, starts drinking alcohol and playing Reverse Russian Roulette with another officer, while on duty, you should report this to supervision. (Doh).

I’m not seeing him referred to as a detective in that article. Did I miss it?

No it was conveniently omitted from the article. To that end the LinkedIn profile is now also unavailable.

Flute, I did read the article in its entirety, and am going back to reread it immediately... I was basing my previous question on the info that HerculeHolmes provided in post #446, referring to the partner as Det. PR. Time for me to get some coffee, do some rereading, and research... it's just that when I saw him referred to as "Det. PR", my mind went a million miles an hour wondering why he would be on a patrol assignment (thanks to mickey2942 for post #450).

I did not intend to justify cocaine sale/use. just trying to look at possible motives for meeting and lying about the nature of the meeting.

and yes, SLMPD police start at $42,000ish. While other municipalities nearby start at least $10,000ish higher and have less crime to fight. It is an issue in recruiting and keeping officers. and overtime pay is great until you reach the line when you are sacrificing quality of life and quality of work performance to pay bills.

again, not justifying anything. just observations.

Thank you so much for the explanation. My apologies for implying you did, I didn't mean to make it sound that way. LE do have difficult, dangerous jobs and most folks want to forgive some errors they make or shortcuts they take. We can all agree that's not acceptable behavior. :(

ETA: Adding after reading the latest article linked above, from the description of their district, they weren't working a very dangerous or high crime area. It's actually pretty low crime. These guys had good jobs, good pay and they blew it because they took advantage of their good situation.

Annual Report (2010) is too large to upload. P.9 has Hayden (then a Capt.) as the head of IA. Just an observation.

P.15 lists Riordan as a commissioned det.

https://www.slmpd.org/images/2010 Annual Report to the Community -2.pdf

I'm not sure that's the same Riordan. Riordan and Hendren are listed in the article:
Drinking on duty allegations against St. Louis officers involved in shooting death of off-duty officer
as both being 29 years old. That would make them app.20 years old in 2010. Maybe Riordan has a father/uncle also on the STL police force?

ETA: math issues

Yes that's a good call out. 29* a 19 yr old detective doesn't make much sense. Same first and last would be surprised if they were not related.

White Pages has at least 6 PRs listed in MO. Although only 1 is 29.
