It washes because the partner is there to vouch for it. Without the partner's eyewitness account of the whole RRR thing, it looks even more ridiculous, if that's possible.

I guess so. tho it is hard for me to believe that he just said ok have fun im gonna go wait in the car while you RRR.

his alleged response actually makes the whole scenario even more unbelievable on some levels.

If the best story they could come up with is RRR (without spinning the cylinder), what in the world really happened in that apartment?

Jan 31, 2019 - KSDK/News 5

ST. LOUIS — The attorney representing the other officer at the home when Katlyn Alix was fatally shot said his client had a few sips of beer just before the incident but blew a 0.0 on a breathalyzer test.

Jim Towey said his client, Officer Patrick Riordan, was working with Nathan Hendren the night of the incident. He said all three officers were texting and planning to meet in the district Riordan and Hendren were patrolling but changed plans and they instead met at Hendren's home early Thursday.

Towey said Riordan had opened a beer at Hendren's home and took a few sips, but blew a 0.0 when given a breathalyzer test by other officers.

Towey said this was the first time that Riordan left his district while on duty. He called the incident a tragedy and said there was nothing nefarious going on.

Attorney of other officer at fatal shooting of Officer Alix said his client had 'a few sips' of beer

"First time he EVER left his duty station".
"ONLY drank a few sips of beer"
"Blew 0.00 on breathalyzer".

1. He wasn't supposed to leave duty station, unless he notified supervision.
2. Police officers are never supposed to drink alcohol at work.
3. Who will testify about the breathalyzer? Any independent verification, like a blood test?

He needs to be fired, and charged as an accomplice to murder. He could have called in when two police officers were playing Russian Roulette...he didn't. And I don't believe the fairytale anyway.

His lack of integrity here, makes him completely useless as a police officer in court. Any defense attorney can use this against him, his testimony would have absolutely no validity, given that he is already proven to be an officer who drinks on the job, and leaves duty station.

Nothing nefarious? You mean aside from the game where one person points a loaded gun at another person and squeezes the trigger? And darn....the ONE & ONLY time he left his district while on duty, and this happens? What bad luck.

I don't want the partner's name forgotten (PR), and also waiting for him to be fired and charged in the death of KA.

NH and PR are nobodies-- 1.5 - 2 year rookies at best. They really are dispensable, and one would think SLPD would want them dismissed immediately, very much in public view, as 2 rogue cops that slipped through the hiring process. These guys clearly are not the caliber of men that should be serving as LE officers.

So why the shield? Why is PR being protected? How much of this irrational RR story was crafted for his benefit? Does PR have senior family members on the force? I'm hoping we soon hear these questions posed by the family's representative.

an article from today in the dm about her ex- husband:

'Russian Roulette' cop victim Katlyn Alix left her first husband after just three months while he was away on active duty in the US Marines, DailyMail.com can exclusively reveal.

Andrew Portell was so heartbroken he penned a bitter rant on Facebook, appearing to accuse her of cheating and calling her 'a wolf in sheep's clothing.'

But within months he mellowed and started talking about how much he loved his 15-years-younger ex, even after the divorce was final.

'We were married a very short time, but in that time we burned hot,' Portell told DailyMail.com.

'I gave her my whole heart and loved that woman with everything I had and everything I was. So, of course, I was hurt when it ended. But I never stopped loving her and caring for her. That's the type of heart and soul she had.

'Till this day I still would have done anything for her. I loved her, I loved her a lot, I will love her forever.'

His name has already been mentioned in the news media, so there's no reason to use his initials unless it's for convenience sake.

At this time, he's only a witness pursuant to TOS.

It's ok to mention his name if it's been mentioned in the news media. Yes, he's only a witness. No one here is accusing him of anything. No one here is sleuthing him or bashing him. He is not a family member of the victim.

I have respect for people in law enforcement as I do for people in any profession, but is there a need to afford Patrick Riordan special treatment?

A suggestion for St. Louis and other cities trying to recruit quality people to work in LE. Years ago (back in the 60's and early 70's, IIRC) some major cities adopted programs of offering tuition reimbursement for 4 and 6 yr degrees for new police recruits. It helped them attract a more professional class of recruit - intelligent, ambitious people who were interested in pursuing high paying careers in law enforcement up to the level of FBI, DEA, DHS, state highway patrol, corporate security, etc. It helped introduce a lot of professionalism, innovation, etc. into big city police departments.

Something I wish they would consider in the metro area I live in.

I agree. A game of Russian Roulette, by police officers, is certainly nefarious!! And lets even assume that he is telling the truth that is the first time he ever left his district on duty. Why did he do it this time? Why did he take even ONE sip of beer? Why did he not stop the game? That is 3 terrible decisions one, right after another, after another.

I don't think PR will be criminally charged. I don't see that he has committed a crime, at least based upon the information that we have now. And while I also think that he SHOULD be fired, I am not sure he will be. Not yet. Their collective bargaining agreement will govern what is a fireable offense and what discipline will be done and how. But I think the Chief, Mayor, DA, all need to come out and let the public and the police know that from now on, all rules will be strictly enforced. There seems to have been a pretty lax atmosphere in the department and that has to change immediately.

So lying to obstruct a criminal investigation is not a crime? If this RR stuff is all BS, why shouldn't he be charged? And if he's lying, who knows what really happened, and if he might even be involved in her death?

  • #636
It would be outrageous if PR is not fired. The union shouldn't be there to protect officers who are AWOL, and drink on the job. He admitted to opening a beer and drinking. Anything else is irrelevant.

I won't even mention the rest of it. Deferred.

If PR was unhappy with the "Russian Roulette" (or whatever was really going on) and wanted to leave, what did he plan to do? I assume he and NH arrived together in their police car...was he going to back to work and leaving NH and KA there? What did he think would happen then?

I am woefully "under credentialed" when it comes to the analysis of facial contusions, but I'm noticing a few folks here wondering about that black eye, too.

When I first viewed his mugshot, I could see some "age" to the contusions around the eye, mainly in the form of yellowing. That would make sense if the mugshot was taken on the day the photo was released (Jan 28). If it was taken within a day or two of the incident (I prefer to call it the "nefarious accident" ;)) it doesn't look like fresh damage.

Then again (just thinking aloud). . .I suppose if he got the "shiner" prior to the RRR it would be noticed by others and we'd know that by now. . . ?

On a similar note: Anyone else think that the window head-butting was done in an attempt to "cover up" an injury sustained during the nefarious accident? IMO MOO

BBM: Yes. I have speculated about that possibility, too.

We don't have any facts. I would be interested in evidence that Alix was actually in the apartment when she was shot.

If we don't believe the story presented, then, I doubt everything.

Yep. That's where I'm at with this case, too, mickey.

I'm more interested in eyewitness statements from independent neighbors, witnesses, etc. that were near the apartment and what they reported seeing and hearing that night.

I believe nothing the partner has stated.

Lies, lies, lies, lies.

JMO.
