Court documents: Hendren was 'in love' with Officer Alix, planning on moving in together

A newly-obtained court document states that, at the hospital, Hendren “spontaneously stated to his supervisor… that he did not try and kill the victim because he was in love with her and they were in an intimate relationship and were planning on moving into his apartment.

BBM

Police found three cell phones at the scene. They are attempting to determine to whom the phones belong. The other officer on scene states that Alix had submitted several text messages to both officers that night, inquiring on their whereabouts, as well as phone conversations, “which led the victim” to Hendren’s apartment, according to the court documents.

If true, I'm surprised Officer Alix was still carrying on with NH, even though she had recently married someone else.

She was also texting and calling them to meet up at NH's apartment to drink and play games. Sounds like this was a regular occurrence for them. JMO

I'm really bothered by NH saying this when we have no idea what KA was feeling/planning. It doesn't seem right. I can't give this much weight without knowing KA's perspective. I feel sorry for KA's husband. JMO.

Yes, it could be his version of what he thought she was thinking and planning. It's still possible this was the result of NH's jealousy.

OTOH, LE was able to retrieve text messages and phone calls from the cell phones of the 3 officers, leading them to say the "get together" at NH's apartment was something voluntary. If Alix didn't want to get together at the apartment or was being threatened in some way to make her go there, it will show up in the texts. The prosecutor has also reviewed the texts and phone call info. If they thought there were threats to Alix, if NH was angry or vindictive, they might have had grounds to bring different charges.

If true that she was still having a fling with NH, it could explain her husband's silence since her death. I do feel sorry for him.

It would be interesting to know if RRR was mentioned in any of the texts.

I don't think the "in love" element is a big surprise to anyone. It explains why she would go to the apartment at that late hour. The tragedy is that KA ended up fatally shot.

That aside, I am disturbed by the actions of 3 officers, let alone 2 on duty. They were drinking and meeting up socially outside of their assigned district while on duty! What in the heck would make them think this is ok? Was it something they did on a regular basis?

I am starting to believe it was an accidental shooting but still have a hard time swallowing the RRR story. The timeline doesn't permit any game being played. Did NH want to show his paramour his personal gun? Did he handle it so recklessly that the RRR story sounded better, giving her part of the blame?

Can't wait to see texts and phone records. There is still an ugly story to tell here. IMOO

I think that this is pretty volatile. I never bought the "RRR" story.

Now, we have 'the rest of the story"...I wonder if Alix was thinking about breaking up with NH...

This is an update to a previous article. NH's attorney is quite upset with the CA and released this statement....

Circuit Attorney Kim Gardner’s own words show that not only did she rush to judgment in charging Officer Nathaniel Hendren with a crime just one day after Officer Alix’s death, but that she did so without gathering facts or evidence in a thorough, objective or legal way.

Ms. Gardner also specifically states that she is willing to break the law and violate the Constitution to prosecute Officer Hendren for a situation that was a tragic accident.

In a letter obtained by the media, written on January 28, 2019 (3 days after charging Officer Hendren) Circuit Attorney Kim Gardner ironically accuses the police department of reaching a “pre-disposed conclusion” due to the fact that all of the investigating officers, including Chief of Police John Hayden, characterized the shooting death of Officer Alix as a tragic accident.

It is clear by Ms. Gardner’s letter that she ignored the seasoned professionals on the scene, who are experienced and entrusted with investigations, when she filed these uninformed and unsustainable charges.

Further, Circuit Attorney Gardner is now on record, in writing, that she is willing to violate the Constitution to support these unfounded criminal charges against Officer Hendren by circumventing the law and demanding information from the police department that would violate the United States Constitution.

It is clear that Circuit Attorney Gardner cannot be impartial, unbiased or objective in continuing to prosecute these charges, and that the entire investigation is unsalvageable and the prosecution irreversibly tainted due to Circuit Attorney Gardner’s unconstitutional investigation and prosecutorial misconduct.

Attorneys love to say anything that makes them sound smart.

NH is guilty of murdering his GF. 20 years. Stop blowing smoke.

I don't understand where he's trying to go with this argument. A lot of blah, blah, blah with no examples of the alleged misconduct. LE and the CA both saw the evidence, heard the statements and reviewed timeline, texts and phone calls. NH admitted to playing RRR, the gun was used by him to shoot Officer Alix. Based on all that the CA laid the most minimal charge possible against NH.

IANAL, but asking for a blood draw to test for drugs is not a violation of the US Constitution, specifically the First Amendment, when you just admitted killing your partner. Am I missing something? TIA. JMO.

Totally agree! This lawyer is just jumping on the band wagon of the police union's battle with the CA. I haven't chosen a 'camp' to be in yet i.e. CA versus STLPD. I think both have a lot of room for improvement. But with this case, the CA sure has plenty to be concerned about and pursue. She shouldn't have to fight with the police department to do that.

Sounds about right..."HE was in love with her."

Not the same as "WE are in love."

I don't think there's anything new in this statement by NH Attorney that he first released 1/28/19-- date NH had his first court appearance.

I think it's just repost after today's News 4 Exclusive report about NH in love with KA.

Both attorneys for NH and KA family had "no comment" on News 4 Exclusive.

So she was married 3 months and allegedly was now going to move in with another man?! Please tell me that isn’t true!!

  • #836
I base my statement on the fact she had been married for a few months, and was at another officer's home, while her husband was on duty. It's entirely possible that they were merely friendly co-workers, but given NH has stated that he was in love with her, or that they had plans to move in together, does not exactly scream Newlywed. It's no wonder there has been no comment from her so-called husband.

Ok, I am now thinking this was accidental after all. Ugh. And terribly stupid and reckless.
This gun, you can supposedly tell where the bullet is in the chamber by looking at it? Did I read that correctly some pages ago?
IMO it's possible NH thought he saw where the bullet was, and he was deadly wrong. It's *possible* some kind of flirtatious role-playing was going on of the "yes Officer" kind (to put it delicately) and if so my guess is they weren't playing RR, and the gun pointing was his alone. Conjecture etc. but this seems to be the Occams Razor explanation *if* they had a romantic relationship of sorts happening.

I think this is possible. But I also think it’s just as likely that something went terribly wrong in this relationship and he killed her on purpose. Perhaps she wanted more, or he wanted more, she wanted out, he wanted to tell her husband, etc etc. So many possibilities.

SABBM:

Oh. Yeah. Okay. That sure sounds like a "spontaneous," if by spontaneous they mean rehearsed, statement.

Because, you know, men never, ever kill women they're having "intimate" relationships with...especially not when it's a "love" triangle situation. Course not.

Can't say as I can recall a single case of that ever happening.

JMO.

BBM:

No wonder is right. I feel horrible for the husband.
This makes for what's known as a "complicated bereavement."
There are likely going to be a lot of different emotions for him to sort through.
Hopefully, he has a good support system.

JMO.
