Today's schedule of events: http://fergusonoctober.com/schedule/
I've never heard "gangway" used apart from meaning "Out of my way!" It seems an odd choice, but I've never been a city dweller where "gangways" may exist.
MB, DJ, and now Myers all were enrolled in "virtual academies" and not in regular schools. Not sure what that indicates, but it indicates something informative about them imo.

Some chat users like Mibbit, which doesn't require Java to work and seems more stable than the Java client.

I'd be interested in what other definition the protestors think is the meaning of "gangway".
I've been a City Dweller in Chicago & StL; I thought gangway means the area between two buildings where one could walk but not drive; in any case I'm over making words into something they just aren't
IMHO virtual academies keep the kid in the education system without having them around other kids (I wonder why?) -- I'd never send my kid to a public school in StL, but honestly, those who can afford to send their kids to private schools in this area do because the education system around here just plain SUX
Watch the Klan be the ones that actually went and got permits to protest.

In St. Louis City, I'd agree. Outside of that, there are some very good public school districts. You talk about Wildwood. Rockwood and Parkway out that direction are very good public school districts. There are definitely some bad ones, but there are also some very good ones.
"the opening by which a ship is boarded" ... Been a long time, but that's familiar to me too.
When I heard "gangway" the first thing I thought of was the reservoir that is east of Grand at Shaw if you look on google maps. That place always creeped me out growing up. Not sure if the shooting was right at Shaw and Grand, but that's the first thing that I thought of. I think one account said something about the guy having run up a hill too and that reservoir sits atop a little bit of a hill IIRC and there are walkways around it as well.
Suburban Chicago girl here who grew up in the whitest of white towns (Melrose Park.) All Italians at the time I grew up. We called the space between 2 houses or buildings a gangway and it had nothing to do with gangs. Also, in the trade show industry, the consruction crews use what is called a "gangbox" which is like a traveling toolbox and supply kit to keep all of their tools. Again - nothing to do with gangs or racism.
That said, the term gang really isn't racist either, when dealing with the typical form of street gangs, as the term gang can refer to any number of different organizations, which in and of themselves may cater to specific races or ethnicities. There are Russian, Italian, Columbian, Mexican, Irish, Chinese, and even White Supremecist "gangs" including Aryan Nation, in addition to the Bloods, Crips, Kings, Desciples, etc... How can using the term "gang" be considered racist?
This is typical reaching behavior for those who just wish to start or drive controversey.
Maybe he's being pro active because he doesn't want to lose business. The cops hands are tied as far as protecting themselves let alone protecting anyone in the community. JmoTeenager shot by St. Louis police officer was awaiting trial on gun case
How does this guy know that Myers didn't all ready have the gun on him. Does he search all of his customers for weapons before making them a sandwich? GMAB.

I thought the number had always been reported between 2,000 and 10,000 with 7,000 being the most common figure given. Regardless, I'll be pleasantly surprised if it's 700. But, to look at the positive...if 30,000 were to come in to town, they all have to eat somewhere. They all have to get gas somewhere. They all will drink somewhere. Keep spending those dollars in Missouri and help us pay for this stuff.
Prayer vigil outside Shaw Market today at 5, followed by prayer service at Compton Heights Christian Church 3 mi. away.
Shaw Market has been owned/operated for 20+ yrs. by a native of Eritrea [on the Red Sea, right of Sudan]. He seems to be very well-regarded in that community.
