In 1979, while in California, Tippit testified in court against a suspect in a prostitution case and was subsequently beaten up for being involved and referenced people being after him. Bob Tippit was last seen in 1977 or 1978 (although NamUs lists him as missing in 1980). In 1979, Bob testified against a suspect in a prostitution case in California and was beaten up by the suspect's associates. He moved back to Kansas and was last known to be in St Louis, Missouri.

His father's obit from 1984 lists Robert living in San Diego, California. His mother's obit from 2011 lists him as deceased.
