No changes by 4:30 PM Friday.

Maybe if we chip in & pay those fees on the docket???

IMHO, that verdict will post after the retirement celebration wraps up.

Somewhat OT: Hubby has relatives in this area.

If you ever are in Springfield, Missouri, Cafe Cuzco is terrific!

Back on topic, somewhat: such unusual wording for a retirement reception announcement???

The delay seems bizarre, but perhaps the delay is common in a Bench Trial. I found this:
How long does it take a judge to make a decision on a bench trial?

It can vary quite widely, but a few months is not out of the ordinary. A lot depends on the complexity of the case.
In a bench trial, the judge has to prepare written reasons (unlike a jury trial, where the jury just makes up its mind). In an easy case, this can run a few pages and might only take a couple of weeks. In a very complex case, it's not unheard of for a decision to run over 100 pages and take months to prepare.

Well it depends on the case. If it is obvious that the accused has committed the crime, then it will most likely only take a few days.
However, if it is a complicated trial with lots of evidence presented by both sides of the case, then it will most likely take a few months for the judge to decide the outcome, as he judge cannot make a decision and then present it to the court. They have to come up with a report stating why the have decided the outcome they did. If they decide guilty, then they have to state why they have reached this conclusion and this report could be over 100 pages long and takes months, as they have to comment on the evidence presented and decide its relevance to the case.

It varies widely. Some judges in state court, at least sometimes, rule immediately or almost immediately. And then I’ve known of judges sitting on their decision for over a year, although that is rare.

But he said he would have the verdict by July 15th... I guess he is looking forward to his going away party instead! :(

I am sick to my stomach!

Circuit Judge Calvin Holden has found that Theodosia resident Rebecca Ruud is not guilty of first-degree murder, second-degree murder, abuse of a child, and tampering with evidence.

She was found guilty of only one charge, abandonment of a corpse. It is a class E felony with a maximum sentence of four years. Ruud has already served five years in pre-trial custody. It is unclear if she will be given credit for time served.

Sentencing is set for Sept. 15, in Greene County.

Holden took the case under advisement and studied the evidence for 29 days following Ruud’s June 27-30 trial. Ruud and her defense team chose to have a bench trial rather than a jury trial in the case, meaning Holden heard the evidence and deliberated instead of a jury of her peers.

I am stunned.

The judge was clearly too busy organising their retirement party to study the evidence properly.

Strange they left it until the day they retired to announce the verdict as well? I smell a rat.

Canny defense attorney to advise & arrange a bench trial.

12 taxpayers? Likely would have had a different conclusion.

Wonder what will happen with her sudden husband's case now?

How awful!! Jebus. I agree completely, 12 taxpayers likely would have a different conclusion. But then again we have all seen some bizarre juror verdicts. No need for me to name any. Wow. Retirement, indeed. Shame on him imo. Hope he does not get his desired post retirement gig. Jmo

Poor, poor kid. Utterly failed throughout her short life by the very ones who should have cared for and nurtured her. Now failed in death too.

Savannah was definitely in the wrong hands twice and she suffered immensely. We will never know what 12 people of her peers would have decided.
