Berkeley Police digging up yard in missing teen case
Berkeley Police discovered possible bone fragments Tuesday while excavating a backyard on Jefferson Avenue in search of Shemika Cosey, a 16-year-old who disappeared in 2008. Investigators recovered two to three small fragments after cadaver dogs signaled at a specific location in the yard.

The search was initiated after authorities recently reopened the 18-year-old missing persons case. Police discovered a tip in the original case file that suggested human remains might be buried at the Jefferson Avenue property, leading to the excavation.

No human remains at Berkeley dig site: Police
On Wednesday, the medical examiner revealed the recovered bone did not come from a human but rather an animal.

The excavation was halted due to bad weather, but the Berkeley Police Department said they will resume the dig when the weather permits.
