I had to read this article like three times to figure out what happened and I think I understand but I still have questions.

Apparently Steven Winn left their wife Khristine Winn in 1991 and using Khristine Winn's identity married a man named David Belcher and lived as Kristine Belcher for decades. Belcher died and the real Khristine Winn died so Steven Winn aka Khristine Belcher sold the house, ostensibly with a mind to seek out their children and grandchildren but ultimately killed themselves in a burning 79 New Yorker.

Attached an example pic of this year and model. Something tells me photos of the deceased, their husband and abandoned wife and sold home would be quite interesting.

The question I'm ultimately left with however is, assuming I am understanding this correctly, how were there two Khristine Winn/Belchers both living in the state of Missouri for decades presumably using the same social security numbers? How did the state grant a marriage license to Khristine Winn when she was already married? Did the ersatz Khristine Winn wait until Steven Winn was declared dead? Were they following their formal family's lives that closely?

This story seems like it could be quite sensational if thoroughly investigated.

Oh boy, I am SO confused. So Stephen Winn assumed Khristines identity….and then married David Belcher? Was Stephen trans? Or identify as a woman? Essentially Stephen married David, but as Khristine? Did he just use the name Khristine or completely change his gender identity? I’m so lost. Help, lol

Okay, so it sounds like Stephen aka Khristine WAS a transwoman who presented as such while married, and also while missing. Here I was thinking Stephen was pretending to be a transwoman just to fit her new alias, which would be much crazier and hella dedication!
Using your ex-wife's name and alias is still pretty crazy, though. I can't think of a reason why, because it doesn't sound like she benefited financially from this at all. Sounds like she just assumed the name Khristine Winn (later Bechard after her marriage while 'missing') and didn't actually use the real Khristine's SIN, birth certificate, cards, etc. Maybe I'm just soft but I want to assume that Stephen just really loved her ex-wife and liked the name and wanted to use it.
