Ozark County Sheriff Darrin Reed is asking for help from the public in locating a Douglas County man, 52-year-old Willis Rex Davidson.

In a Facebook post, Sheriff Reed says his department has been involved in the investigation to locate Davidson, who is a former Ozark County resident.

Davidson's mother reported her son missing on Nov. 8th last year. He has been missing since Oct. 31st.

Reed says foul play is suspected in Davidson's disappearance, and several people have been interviewed in the past two weeks.

Anyone with information regarding Davidson's disappearance is asked to call the Ozark County Sheriff's Office at 417-679-4633.

I wonder if this is the same guy. Name and location seem to fit, but I can't find anything on the charge he was being held for.

FindLaw's Missouri Court of Appeals case and opinions.

Following a jury trial, Willis Rex Davidson (Defendant) was convicted of the class D felony of escaping from confinement, in violation of § 575.210, RSMo Supp.1995, and sentenced as a prior offender to ten years' imprisonment.

Defendant was being held in the Ozark County Jail on a charge of first-degree murder.   On April 30, 1996, Defendant left his cell after discovering that it was unlocked.   He then climbed through an open window in the booking room of the second floor sheriff's office, and jumped over twenty feet to the ground.   Defendant, who had fractured an ankle and two vertebrae in the jump, was apprehended three blocks from the jail after a resident reported that a person matching his description was on his front porch.

Ozark County sheriff now suspects foul play in man's disappearance

Sheriff Darin Reed now suspects foul play. The sheriff says he has interviewed several in the last few weeks about the case.

"He hasn't used any of his EBT card purchases, he hasn't picked up any of his medical prescriptions and he left his apartment over here and left all his personal belongings there," said Sheriff Reed.

Sheriff Reed thinks someone knows something about what happened.
Davidson spent 20 years in prison for a death investigation. But some believe he had turned his life around.

Sheriff: Human remains found could be of missing man from 2018

Sheriff Degase says that the location of the remains matches up to where the man from 2018 went missing.

Sheriff Degase did not reveal the identity of who he thinks the remains belonged to until they get the results of a DNA test.

Sheriff Degase says they have not ruled out foul play and are currently waiting to get the autopsy report.

Human remains found by an Ava-area farmer Jan. 13 could be those of Rex Davidson, an Ozark County resident who disappeared Oct. 31, 2018. At this point, officers say foul play has not been ruled out.

Identification of the remains, which are said to have been badly deteriorated when they were found, indicating the individual may have died some time ago, will likely come in the form of results of DNA testing and dental identification, which can take several months.

Douglas County Sheriff Chris Degase told KY3 news the day after the remains were found that clothing and shoe sizes found on the human remains do match Davidson’s.

“Things of that nature lead us to believe that it could possibly be our missing subject,” Degase said.

He said his office will continue to investigate the case, and more information will likely be available after an autopsy and DNA testing results are returned from a Springfield lab.

Dobbs said he’s been in contact with Davidson’s family frequently over the past year and a half while involved in the missing-person investigation.

“If this is Rex, it will be good for them to finally have closure,” he said.
