MO - Woman escapes from Excelsior Springs house, says she's been held against her will since September 2022

I'm still shaking my head over here about crawling under the garage door.

If I had witnessed that, my hinky meter would have been exploding.
I don't have a hinky meter but my WTF meter would have been so loud I'd have needed earplugs.

Thanks. Not on FB so can't view. No wonder I didn't know what was being talked about. Appreciate the response!
They are referencing the Delphi Murders that happened near a train bridge, last photo taken before the girls were killed was on the bridge
that day in Feb 2017.

AGREED!!!!
Another thing I use as a barometer is if dogs don't like a particular person. Dogs are keenly aware of things humans can't see (or ignore). I always listen to my gut feelings.
Agreed with it all! I’ve seen my dogs react oddly to people around my kids. Then that’s my hint and those people are no longer allowed near my kids.

Blurry video of the arrest...and a neighbor who said his dog was aggressive.

I found the careless driving charges mentioned in the article accompanying this video very interesting:

“On Tuesday, Haslett Jr. pleaded guilty in a separate case for a careless driving charge involving an accident. Previously filed citations show he is accused of driving into the rear of a moving vehicle on three separate occasions in July, August and December of 2021.”

Maybe this was a method of stopping potential victims on the road? Seems odd to have run into a moving vehicle three seperate times!

That is very interesting. In Hidden True Crime's interview with one of his neighbors from Oct. 12th linked a couple of pages back, the neighbor commented about wrecked cars on his property- she specifically mentioned that most of the times their bumpers were off and laying on top of the car and that the cars were subsequently towed off the property. Of course this could be a coincidence and perhaps he worked on cars, but the three separate driving incidents do make me wonder.

I think it's easier to say in hindsight that you'd be suspicious of a neighbor crawling under their garage door. But if he never gave his neighbors reason to believe it was sketchy, why would they think it's something that may signal he's a criminal? Idk, sometimes people are weird and so weird stuff. The neighbor who reported on it said she figured his garage door was broken, which seems like more of a reasonable reaction as opposed to being suspicious. Jmo

Same thoughts here. First thing I would be thinking...it's broken. I could see myself wondering about multiple car wrecks on his property. First thoughts would be...is he a repair guy or did misfortune hit him.

What about non-juveniles? The woman that escaped was 23.
I couldn't find anything recent on missing adult persons. The man that made the tiktok video said that Young women/girls were being found. That's why I shared the link for missing juveniles. If you would like to search for missing adults in Kansas City, Missouri. Please do.

I think the garage door was broke too. He wasn't going to call the landlord to come take a look or send a repair person when he had a kidnapped woman restrained, raped and beaten just inside in the basement.

Yes, I'm curious if the drivers of those three vehicles were young women. Also, since he had been unemployed.. maybe his brakes were super bad and he didn't have the funds to fix them? I don't know where he was when he was rear ending people but Excelsior Springs is super hilly where he lives.

Everardo Miranda said he and his fiancée previously had issues with Haslett Jr.’s dog. On Oct. 7, their usual walk to the bus stop with their child was interrupted.

“His dog was out on our way back,” Miranda said. “The dog saw my fiancée and tried to lunge at her.”

He tried to flag down a police officer who was driving in the neighborhood that morning. The officer told Miranda he would contact animal control.
(snip)

I think that the dog has been trained to lunge at women and was used to terrorize his victims. I'm curious if his fiancé is a woman of color?

Has the dog been captured and maybe euthanised? I recall it being said the victim had released the dog and escaped so the dog was then loose for a while.

Interesting. LE used an Animal Control violation to pull him over the morning the woman escaped.

The woman escaped when Haslett took his child to school.

When he returned home, law enforcement was there.

Police took Haslett into custody on an unrelated animal-control violation.

Police are examining evidence recovered from the home to investigate if other crimes were committed. According to an application for a search warrant, investigators asked the court to seize a 10 x 10 x 16 inch safe and its contents, any evidence related to illegal sexual acts and felonious restraint including ropes, restraints, whips, handguns, and other weapons.

Investigators also searched for any trace evidence including fingerprints, swabs for DNA, hair, fibers, apparent blood or bodily fluids and any item with apparent blood or bodily fluids, surveillance video and any video or digital media storage or storage devices.

He entered a guilty plea Tuesday in a separate August 2021 case involving a careless and imprudent driving charge involving an accident. During discussion about the careless driving case, he told the judge he failed to appear in court on several occasions because he was out of town for work, and he was hospitalized for an infection.
Not guilty plea entered for man charged with holding woman hostage in basement, raping her

The Star reported that since Haslett’s arrest, police have carried large bags of evidence from the ranch-style home. They’ve used a cadaver dog, which can track the missing or dead, to examine the yard and Haslett’s truck.

Was the woman who escaped a working girl? I ask because if she was, when she said her friends didn’t make it, I assumed that she meant other working ladies.
(which ofc I immediately thought of many Criminal Minds episodes..though this is neither here nor there, atm)

I had thought of this also. Women that a family/friends wouldn't necessarily miss? The woman that escaped said he picked her up at xxxx street. (Cannot remember the name of the street) She didn't say they went on a date or met somewhere. MOO

Sad it had to happen this way but... I'm GLAD he's off the streets!! All I can think of is road rage (his gruffness and door slamming talked about earlier makes me think that). I also saw where he tailgated a fair amount in his records. Something is seriously wrong with this dude.

I sure hope Missie has a Ring video since she's got the best vantage spot to his garage.
