. . . The two had an argument and, according to Byrd, Rodriguez left with their son when Byrd was gone from the house. He hadn't seen them since. The Rodriguez family says the two had a volatile relationship. She was getting ready to kick him out of their house. He says that she left last year for about a month with their child so he wasn't overly concerned when she disappeared this time.
We tried to get a comment from Byrd to ask him about his missing son and the efforts to find the little boy. A family member told us he didn't want to talk about his son.

I think most of us probably see where this is going to lead. :furious:

Police search for child after mom's body identified

[snip]

The boy's second birthday was Tuesday, several days after his mother's body was pulled from the river.

[snip]

Rodriguez's family said the seven-year relationship between Rodriguez and the boy's father, Gebar Byrd Sr., was tumultuous. Guadalupe Rodriguez said Byrd was physically abusive, citing one time last year when she said he seriously injured Yasmin Rodriguez in a beating. Police were called, but Rodriguez didn't press charges, her sister said.

"We always begged my sister to leave him, but she would never leave him," Guadalupe Rodriguez said. "Maybe it was because she loved him and had faith that the relationship was going to get better."

Byrd could not be reached for comment.

Just a slightly different story...Could be bad reporting, or just a detail that wasn't made known before. Who knows.

Police search for Gebar J. Byrd, Jr. after his mother found dead

[snip]

"Gebar Byrd Sr. stated initially they had a verbal disagreement. He left the residence and when he returned Yasmin and the child were missing," Ransom said. "He said they left a year ago similar to this and had been gone a month and kind of traveled to relatives. So this is not out of character for them."

[snip]

The Rodriquez family is unhappy with police, saying they've dragged their feet on the investigation. Police said they've done all they can.

Ransom was asked about the amount of time that passed before they classified the child as missing. He said police issued the missing persons report the day after they received the information from her family.

[snip]

Ransom said this case does not meet the criteria for an Amber or SARAA Alert because the child left with a parent and there was no kidnapping.

KMOV -- The father of a missing University City toddler made a public plea Saturday for the boy's return.

The two-year-old and his mother were reported missing by her family members March 28th. On Friday, April 9, the mother's body was found in the Mississippi River. The boy, however, still remains missing.

Gebar Byrd Sr. met with reporters this afternoon and pleaded for the return of his son. Byrd says he last saw his son, Gebar Byrd Jr. and his fiance, 24-year-old Yasmin Rodriguez, on March 25th.

Byrd told police an argument between him and Rodriguez ended with him leaving the the house. When he returned, the boy and his mother were gone.
"I really do want to make sure that I'm able to get in contact with my son cause he does need to be with his father now that his mother is out of the way," Byrd told reporters. "...I do believe there was some foul play involved...I'm not sure what type but someone came and picked them up...I'm not sure what happened that's all I know..."

While Rodriguez's family has accused him of being involved with the boy's disappearance, Byrd says has has already taken and passed three polygarph tests.

All I can find in the Missouri courts for GB are two tickets, for failing to register a vehicle and displaying another person's vehicle tag, and a personal-injury lawsuit with GB as plaintiff (dismissed by parties). https://www.courts.mo.gov/casenet/cases/nameSearch.do

If you look at the court link, you'll notice that GB was 15 at the time of the personal-injury lawsuit. His "next friend" was a woman listed as ____ Bomar. Legally, a "next friend" is one who acts on behalf of someone who cannot act on his own legally (maybe because GB was underage?) Veromi lists Ms. Bomar as also having the last names Johnson and Byrd. I really hope LE is checking out all the relatives.

He sure seemed relaxed and casual in his video "plea." I don't trust his word at all.

Father Of Missing 2 Year Old Speaks Out

The father of a missing two year old child from University City defends himself. He denies allegations he had something to do with the boy's disappearance and his mother's death. Gebar Byrd Sr. says he has not seen his son since March 25, the same day he last saw his fiancée, Yasmine Rodriguez. Police found her body in the Mississippi River but have not found Gebar, Jr.

Saturday, Byrd spoke directly to the person responsible for Yasmine's death and to anyone who knows where his son is.

"You really do need to turn yourself in to the police department, for what you did, for the injustification that was done to my fiancée - my lady. That was really really wrong and somebody has to answer for it. Somebody's gonna have to answer for the justice that's gonna be done for that."

Yasmine Rodriguez's family claims she and Byrd had a volatile six year relationship. Byrd says he's passed three polygraph tests. Police say he is not a suspect.

Everytime he talks he digs a deeper hole.

Is this the right guy - he lives in St. Louis and has a birth date of 12/28/83? If so, background check shows nothing and criminal check shows one misdemeanor charge. moo
