More problems caused by illegal immigration

I have no problem with legal immigration. It's the fact that our laws are not being enforced that bothers me. We already have laws in place to control immigration. Many in the world do it legally and wait years and jump through many hoops to get here. When they do come, they work and pay taxes on their own social security card.

Illegal immigration is a huge drain on our economy. Just look at California if you want to see what will happen in the rest of our country (and is already happening in many states).

Your venom seeps through and disgusts me and you ought to do a little history reading (since I'm an historian, I'd be happy to recommend some titles) . All of our ancestors were "illegals" at some point in time...get over it and look for a solution. The only "American" way of life you speak of is limited to certain areas, cultures, etc. It never really existed in the way you're describing.

One more thought - it sounds like you need to speak with a professional about your feelings as your anger is trumping your ability to converse logically about this.

To assume anyone only thinks Mexicans are guilty is as close to calling someone stupid as you can get. The article posted was Texas and drugs beleived to have come from Mexico, geez no wonder Mexicans were mentioned.

I'm from Texas, so I can only speak about what I've seen firsthand, but I believe the backlash surrounding illegals (and they are mainly Hispanic here, I can't tell you when the last time I saw a European immigrant was) is due to the fact that we are watching our quality of life disappear while we pay for theirs to get better. I was in the grocery store line the other day behind 3 generations of Hispanic women who were unloading 2 carts of groceries that totaled $573, which they promptly whipped out their food stamp card for. Meanwhile I'm standing back there with my coupons and my little basket of essentials, thinking I couldn't spend that much in one trip and my husband makes good money. Or at the dr's office when I'm charged out the wazoo and the illegal in front of me walks out without paying a dime. There is a LOT of money to be made in the West Texas oil fields right now and I would venture to guess a lot of those blue collar workers are illegal. I just can't help but think that if they're making money why can't they get off the public assistance and give their tax-paying hosts a break. That, I think, is the real issue for people who are so outspoken against illegal immigration right now. If you come over here and break our laws, at least don't make me pay for it.

I'm so glad I got sick and had to stay off WS for a while, and missed this mess. I'm not going to get back into it, either.

Except for one thing I have left to say and people on both sides of this issue are making the same mistake: please mind that you use certain terms correctly!

It is very annoying to see people talking about 'immigrants' and then it turns out they are actually talking about 'illegals'.
They are not the same, people.... please try and use the correct terms, it has bled into society enough already. There really are people who don't know the difference and it doesn't help that people who do (or should) mis-use these terms as well.
