MOSCOW, March 22 (Reuters) - At least 40 people were killed and more than 100 injured when five gunmen dressed in camouflage opened fire with automatic weapons at people at a concert in the Crocus City Hall near Moscow, in one of the worst such attacks on Russia in years.

This reminds me of the theater attack on Moscow that occurred in 2002. There were over 850 hostages. The authorities there tried a novel approach, using an incapacitating drug in an aerosol form. Although many hostages survived, the drug apparently caused the deaths of some of the hostages.

The state department warned Americans to stay away from mass gatherings in Russia, a couple weeks ago. Reports at the time pointed to threats from an ISIS offshoot.

Probably Chechens or their allies or ISIS. Putin opponents would discredit themselves with random civilian deaths, and I think the same applies to Ukraine.

Almost all of the (dead) hostages were killed by the gas the Russians used in the rescue attempt.

Here it appears it took way too long to even arrive on scene.

As others have mentioned, this has the hallmarks of the Chechen Islamist attacks at the Moscow theater and the Beslan school.

I do not believe that friends of Navalny would ever mass murder civilians. They are not terrorists.

CNN says there’s been fairly specific intelligence about ISIS planning something like this, since November. Russia was warned.
