this is such a sad story, i have become known as "psycho mom" in my family because i am such a worrier to the point that my son is 4 1/2 and nobody has ever watched him but my best friend 1 time, my mom and dh's mom, thats it.....I am on him all the time making sure he is doing what he needs to and the other day he actually stood at our curb and started crying and dh was like "what is wrong with jacob" so i asked him and he said he was scared of the street...well hubby thinks i over react, i dont....I dont let my kid run in the stores, he better never think of running out the store without me i would flip!!! my hubby thinks i am raising him to be scared of everything....

There was ice on the driveway, so she backs out a little before MIDNIGHT, with all those little children; sorry folks, you can bash me all you want, but that is NOT a responsible situation IMO.

I dont want to bash you Marthatex, you are entitled to your opinion. I just think you are being a little harsh. If I were to examine every case listed on webslueths, I could find something to judge, but I am not perfect either, and I do not believe this woman wanted to kill her child, and I truely think it was an accident. I feel this woman deserves a little compassion.

Well, I understand what you're saying. I DO have compassion for any child or parent who loses a child. But I think as we've seen in many cases (drunk driving, whatever) some people just are not thinking or are negligent.

Yes, I AM judging her harshly because now I have read the articles. It's difficult to tell the whole story from these short articles. It never mentions where the husband was, why didn't someone STOP the child from running out and trying to get in the car.

Do you really think it's normal to drive out at midnight and get candy for children? I don't, because they were YOUNG and should have been in bed, even on Xmas Eve. I am not normally a harsh person, you just have to trust me, but I am PASSIONATE about protecting children from abuse or neglect.

I understand your opinion about compassion, but I have mine about carelessness and neglect.

Thanks Jeana DP. You and I are definitely the same on protecting and being firm with children. :)
