Mother arrested after abandoning her 3 children in an apartment for 4 years, Pontiac MI

Great defence from her attorney.

Bryant’s attorney, Cecilia Quirindongo-Baunsoe, implied that the children could have been scared because they probably aren’t familiar with strangers, especially an officer, being in their home.

The defense attorney also argued that the blood in the sink may not have been a result of the children brushing their teeth because Curtis didn’t watch the children brush their teeth.

thank you for this link, watching the deputy testify now.

The defense argued the children weren’t mentally or physically harmed, making it not child abuse as defined by the statute.

The judge called this an “extraordinary case, extraordinary circumstances.”

The judge then ruled that Bryant will be bound over for trial on the child abuse and welfare fraud charges.

A trial date has not yet been scheduled.

um . . . the defense attorney should read further into the statute than just

“I sacrificed my children." That is a direct quote detectives read in court today from 34-year-old Kelli Bryant during her preliminary examination.

"The most notable observation was what appeared to be feces covering their clothing and their hair," said Detective Brish.

"I’d never smelt a home that smelled that bad without a decomposing body present," he said.

"Her appearance was the most surprising ... her hair was done she was wearing what appeared to be clean, she had long fake nails," he said.

"She knew that her actions were selfish, that’s her wording and that it made her children sick and that she had ultimately sacrificed her children for her own purposes," said Detective Brish.

"Those children were articulate, they were answering questions. They were asking for clarification," said Cecilia Quirindongo Baunsoe, Bryant's defense attorney.

Detectives say Bryant was always living within walking distance of the children she abandoned, she hadn’t touched them or given them hygiene products for years, she would have food dropped off to them about once a week.
[snip]
He had his mother listed in his phone as “world’s greatest mom.” She had her children listed as “my oldest,” “kid 1,” and “kid 2.”
[snip]
she took the batteries out of the smoke detector in the home so there was no risk of the fire department or any police officers ever coming by.

She's more of a horrible human being than I already thought she was.
I'm so glad those kids are out of that nightmare and hope they go on to have amazing lives.

I mean I get her attorney ahs to try to defend the indefensible but dang, all she could pull out of her hat was "you don't know the blood in the sink was from them brushing their teeth because you weren't in the hospital bathroom with them"

and they weren't damaged by this experience, because - get this - they were able to articulate answers and questions to the person who conducted their interviews. Are you flipping kidding me? Uggh. I hate the kid cases so much but I am still compelled to follow them.

The children survived on food drop offs by Bryant or a delivery company, authorities said. Bryant allegedly told them not to leave the house − an order they heeded, save for two trips outdoors by her eldest son to check the mail and touch the grass, authorities said.

Bryant has an undisclosed mental health condition, her attorney said at a March bond hearing.

She has no criminal record and at the time of her arrest had a unspecified job with the state and stable housing elsewhere in Pontiac.

If she has stable housing and a job, why weren't her children living with her? That really makes no sense.

Pontiac — A Pontiac mother who allegedly left her three children to live alone in squalor told an Oakland County Sheriff's Office deputy that she was selfish and "sacrificed my children."

Kelli Bryant's three children, ages 12, 13 and 15, were found Feb. 14 living alone in a Pontiac home filled with cobwebs, trash and feces — a home so filthy that evidence technicians needed to wear hazmat suits and gas masks, Deputy John Brish said Friday during Bryant's preliminary examination in Pontiac District Court.

The kids said their mom had not lived there in years, and the oldest boy only saw her when she dropped off food or had food delivered to the home...

It does when you are a selfish B who doesn't want the responsibility of caring for the children you created and wish to live a "child free" lifestyle.

ETA I am glad at least her fourth child was sent to live with its father so at least one of her children wasn't abandoned in that home to fend for itself.

A Pontiac mother facing trial for leaving her three children to live alone in squalor for years is out of jail.

Kelli Bryant was released from the Oakland County Jail at about 5 p.m. after posting a $50,000 bond, according to the Oakland County Sheriff's Office and court records...

she better not try to intimidate those kids now that she finally got bonded out

Bryant called her children’s caregiver 10 times between March 8-12 from the jail to talk to the youths about her criminal case, according to prosecutors. Bryant also allegedly had other jail inmates call the caregiver on her behalf.
