Motive: The Truck

I have pick up truck, its not a Dodge but it is full size similar to the Dodge style.

It is super easy to remove my seats, four bolts and you are done. Simple two minute job.

So, after "seats" were removed, the truck would have to be driven into the trailer, at the very least? Or perhaps driven all the way to the hangar?

To me this implies that the front driver's seat at least was still present, or they had at least a milk crate to replace it at the farm for the little bit of manoeuvrings that needed to be done to get it in a trailer. If all the seats were taken out, surely there would be no long distance driving.

Can you take out the front passenger seat without taking out the driver's seat? Or, the back seats without taking out the front seats?

I read on a few Baja and Southern US forums/blogs that the truck is most desirable south of US border and on Reservations in the North if that stimulates any ideas.

Well this is a 2012 Dodge Ram 3500...does not look like there is a camper window in back

DM's enclosed trailer had a side access door like many race car and truck trailers have. There is one on the drivers side and opens up to easily access the inside of the trailer, for venting or for getting out of a vehical while its inside the trailer. As far as some have stated about the Blue Yukon pulling the trailer...its not possible as DMs trailer is a goose neck or 5th wheel. They would either have needed DM's red truck or TB's truck to pull the trailer. I have talked to 3 people that are more into Cummins diesels than I am and all firmly believe the red truck had a cummins in it. All stated that the Hemi in a 1ton and expecially a dually is extremly rare as they had fased the V10's out of the 1tons a few years prior. One stated that the only time he has ever seen 1tons with the Hemi's in them is out in the oil fields where there is a chance of a run away engine on a diesel truck due to fumes in the air

Does anyone know how difficult would it have been to hotwire the truck? Say they go back for the truck later at TB's and steal it in the middle of the night. Why wouldn't they have done this instead of what happened??

Was just looking around for photos of TB's particular model, extended cab, short box, non-dually (which seems to be very rare, as per RyeGuy's posts):

Just interesting because I think it shows the back window being open. Looks like a similar setup to the 2012 posted above. Was really tough to find photos of the exact same truck.

I don't think it is completely about the truck, yes, I think the truck was important as it was a secondary gain. I believe from reading about these first two suspects, that it was about a) robbery for thrills and hey make it a useful item a RAM for us, or b) the thrill of actually committing a murder (on an unknown person) and making it look like a truck thief, then silently gloating while watching the news. Tough, silent gangzterz, eh.
I really do think these IDIOTS thought there plan was bullet proof. I think they lived in a world of make-belief hero's aka internet games, believed that the RAP tough guy was how life really is, and refused to go out and get a job... because that world was mean and it was easier to worship a false god (that encouragaged them to do drugs, be a thugs, sleep with hot DUMB chicks, dream of being a RAP star and f around or be lazy).

Did DM's lawyer actually say his client was intelligent?

I just can't see these guys getting off, they have no reasonable excuse for their actions.

I find it noteworthy that Detective-Sergeant Kavanagh, HPS lead investigator for Tim's case, had formerly worked in Hamilton's "Scrap Metal" division ie. auto theft and the like, dealing with cases that also involved violence and deaths linked to these crimes. According to Ross, D/Sgt Kavanagh was proficient as an investigator and known for clearing cases in a way never seen by the department before.

Looks like the right man is on the job, a man who has dealt with auto thieves and knows how they think and operate.

To kill someone just to steal their vehicle seems so senseless, that it leaves us scratching our heads thinking, "there must be more to it, there must be a greater motive behind it all". However, carjackings at times do involve the murder of innocents, innocents who are simply in the way of the thieves' desires for a vehicle.

What a horrifying story! (However, the car thieves didn't phone first, arrive at the owners home wearing bright colours and flashing their tattoo and having some exchange with a family member before driving off with the vehicle/owner hostage.) Nevertheless, I'm very glad there were no infants in the TB vehicle.

No, the car thief was not reported in the article to have done these things.

But, would it have made it any different if he had?

Although the seller in this next story was not hurt, the thief did arrive on foot, having made previous arrangements with the owner through Craigslist (just like Kijiji), and likewise appeared calm in demeanour when meeting with the seller. Again, the presence of "back up", who the thief was in communication via a cell phone.

Well, so far, we know of 3 suspects, two of which have been reported as arrested and charged. A third suspect has not been reported as being in custody, and is presumably at large.

This thread pertains to the discussion of Tim's truck as motive.

I have been wondering if this isn't some variation of the ''shell game'''.... there's a switcheroo involved here somewhere...whether it was to get one or both Rams over the border to the Baja to make quick $$ or what am unsure...

Can you explain why they would have travelled all the way to Ancaster to "thrill kill" someone? Why find the truck on Kijiji, call a guy, set up an appointment, drive a 1/2 hour away, expose their faces to his family? I'd like to hear your theory about that.

Could it be it was the engine or the shell of the truck they wanted? An aster is more rural and likely the two were not know their they may have found it to be a better place to take the truck from? Just a guess. I bet they saw the truck on auto trader it was something DM was interested in from his you tube vid on AM FB page then things got out of hand and mr bosma fought more then they expected and they killed him?
