WTH bond??? My toenail. For a murder charge??? Overkill by shooting 8 rounds into her body. She was, AFAIK, unarmed. Yes, I know this bunch of attorneys is "different," and I know that the accused is just a "college boy" who happens to be a bit older than the regular undergrad, and who certainly wouldn't be a bad guy and secretly fly to Argentina, etc., but all that is beside the freakin' point.
Bond -- the very idea. Yes, money talks and all the rest must stay in jail because they are not special.
I'd have to say about $2 -- 5 million. Put yer money where yer mouth is, Sport.
Lemme stop. Bond. Just <gag>.
And that's how I feel about that.

He killed a probably (not for sure) pregnant young girl with a number of shots. He was found and arrested apparently ready to leave the area. His father has money for top lawyers.

He is a flight risk in my opinion and this was a heinous (and possibly double) murder.

What is set for bond will be telling, imo, not that I think any should be set at all.

Reports of a potential date being set came out Thursday morning, and attorney Tony Farese confirmed with The EAGLE that a bond hearing is scheduled on the morning of Aug. 22 at the Lafayette County Courthouse. bbm

Farese is serving as co-counsel, along with Steve Farese, for Theesfeld. Oxford attorney Swayze Alford is serving as Theesfeld’s lead counsel in the murder case.

Theesfeld has been held at the Lafayette County Detention Center without any form of bail since July 22, in connection with the death of fellow Ole Miss student Ally Kostial. Kostial’s body was found by a Lafayette County Sheriff’s deputy the morning of July 20 at the Buford Ridge area of Harmontown, near Sardis Lake.

The bond hearing comes five days before Lafayette County’s final Grand Jury session of 2019 is scheduled to begin. The Grand Jury will hear cases from Aug. 27 through 30, but it will not be known if Theesfeld’s case is presented to them until after proceedings have been completed. District Attorney Ben Creekmore has previously stated he will present the case to the Grand Jury, who will decide whether to indict Theesfeld or not.

Farese tells the Northeast Mississippi Daily Journal that he requested the bond hearing Wednesday after talks with District Attorney Ben Creekmore’s office. Farese says he will request a “reasonable bond” during the Aug. 22 hearing.

Bond hearing set after slaying of Ole Miss student

Given that prosecutor previously filed motion to hold BT without bond, that's an interesting statement from Farese.

I don't think TB will be released, and defense attorney wanted to go on record as having had the bond hearing prior to GJ. MOO

'Carrying on her legacy': Ally Kostial's friends want to name Ole Miss studio after slain student

Ally Kostial's friends want to dedicate to her an exercise studio to be used for Pilates and yoga classes at the University of Mississippi.

The 21-year-old rising Ole Miss senior was in Oxford over the summer to take classes and teach at the student recreation center. She was found shot to death on July 20.

Now, Kostial's friends hope a newly constructed "mind body studio," scheduled to open on Aug. 28, can help serve as a memorial for the young woman.

"It's a way of carrying on her legacy," said Hannah Chauvin, one of Kostial's best friends.

[...]

"She was always watching (Pilates) videos, trying to think of how to incorporate new things into her classes," Chauvin said. "After spin class, people would come up to me and say how much they liked Ally's classes."

Kostial enjoyed the emotional and spiritual side of teaching yoga, Chauvin said. She liked to keep a book of poetry on hand and provided positive quotes and messages to her students during class.

ETA: Ally's parents approved $150,000 money raising goal at usual site.

I recently watched the initial hearing for Mollie Tibbett's alleged killer CR, and his "reasonable bond" was set at $5mil, cash only, from funds in his name. I loved judge going on record with her no chance in hell criteria for his release on bond.

I recall this question why did Spector get bail release when Robert Blake did not, and this was the explanation from CA prosecutor that I thought provided good clarity on the topic. I believe MS has death penalty, and will look to see if MS also has a "set bail schedule."

Bail Depends on Alleged Crime

Is that a quirky aberration in the Los Angeles County bail system? Hardly, say legal experts. If the circumstances of the cases were reversed, so would the places of the two celebrities, they say.

The county’s bail system is based on a preset schedule that specifies a base amount for every crime alleged. Accused criminals have a constitutional right to a reasonable bail with one exception -- people accused of a murder that could put them on death row or in prison for life without the possibility of parole.

Blake’s case meets that exception. Spector’s doesn’t.

[...]

“There is nothing in the statutes that suggests we can set different amounts in our bail schedule depending on how much money a defendant has,” said Fischer.

After all, she said, “when we set bail schedules, we are not looking at any particular defendant. We are looking at the crime.”

Law enforcement officers or prosecutors can ask judges to set bail higher than $1 million, but in such cases, they have to show that the suspect poses a danger to the community or is likely to flee if released.

How to Post Bail in Mississippi: 5 Things to Know

Mississippi has special rules for bail when certain serious felonies are involved. The state calls these offenses “crimes with bail restriction.” They include capital murder, murder, drive-by shooting, kidnapping, rape, sexual battery, armed robbery, carjacking, arson, burglary, obstruction of justice, escape, influencing a jury and possession of weapons by a convicted felon. For these crimes, a defendant is only allowed to post bail in cash or property or use a surety bond. If the defendant has a prior criminal record, then cash is preferred, according to state law. If you are arrested in Mississippi, here are 5 things you need to know to post bail.

ETA: Raising bail for BT may prove more difficult. Family property is out of state - no assets located in MS?

When I questioned 'reasonable bail' I did so remembering a well known case where wealthy parents bailed out their son (had been accused of multiple rapes) who then proceeded to escape to Europe for 7 years or so. During the period when he was on the run, he was allegedly supported by his parents.

I think its a very real risk in this case as well unfortunately. Does LE want to roll the dice that they won't be chasing this suspect around the world if he manges to escape after being bailed out? IDK.

It seems like in the AK case that flight risk could be a very real issue and I'm not sure there is any monetary bail amount that might stop a determined parent from protecting their accused son by facilitating escape.

Here is the link to the Kelly case which took many years to resolve and simply wasted LE time and resources to track this suspect down overseas.
