I’m so sorry to hear your brother was bullied. What is wrong with these kids?

thank you. that is very kind of you to say. like i said, the culture at ole miss is unlike other college cultures i have ever known, and perhaps you have to be there and experience it to really grasp it. i am sure the educational system is fine, but most of the ole miss experience revolves around the greek system. <modsnip - off topic>

“I know my son is innocent:" Father of man accused in murder of Ally Kostial releases statement

ULANCK4YIFETNIAS7EHHZ5PMTU.jpg

22-year-old Brandon Theesfeld, of Texas, was booked into the Lafayette County Jail at 3:43 p.m. Monday and charged with murder.

[...]
Brandon’s father Daniel Theesfeld released a statement to WMC’s Kendall Downing saying:

“I know my son is innocent. And I have reasons to believe that I can’t share anything now. But I would ask everybody to please give him the presumption of innocence until proven otherwise.”

Ally Kostial was last seen stopping at the door of a bar on the square Friday night.

Saturday morning, the Lafayette County Sheriff’s Department says one of their deputies was on routine patrol at Buford’s Ridge, a remote area with a fishing camp that both locals and college students would go to on the weekends to ride their ATVs in the lake bottom when the water is low.

Yea right, his daddy knows he's innocent because she shot herself 7 times and the cops just randomly snatched him off the street. SMH.

imo

I agree, that and a few other minor things were not in the article when I read it.

The least they could do is change the font color on updates or put them at the top or bottom of articles. It makes me nuts.

I wonder if his firearm was legally owned and licensed to him or someone else?

I can understand a dad standing up for his kid, but it would go a long way if he first expressed condolences to the victim's family. Seriously. (Maybe he did and I missed it.)

I do think this is going to get ugly, but I hope not.

So, from that article, I found this interesting:

"Police have not released details about how Theesfeld and Kostial knew each other, if they did. Theesfeld’s 20-year-old sister is in the same University of Mississippi sorority that Kostial was a founding member of, Alpha Phi. One of Kostial’s close friends wrote on Twitter, “He harassed her for years, took advantage of her for years, I spent countless nights holding Ally close drying her tears about this monster for years. You deserve hell you disgusting excuse for a human. #JusticeForAlly You will never diminish her sunshine.”"

AK would hate this report (Heavy) citing her as a founding member of Alpha Phi (est 1872)!

She was however, one of the founding members of the University of Mississippi Golf Club, and was the club’s president, according to her Linkedin profile.

Senseless death. :( Condolences to her family & friends.

I had just assumed that they meant she was a founding member of the Ole Miss Chapter.

She was the founder of the golf club, which is pretty cool. Shows a go-getter, someone who can make a plan and accomplish it.

How in the world can we protect these young women? (I'm sure young men are victims as well but I'm focusing on these women - MT, SS, KL and now AK) I have been telling the young interns around me that they need to be more cautious of who they meet but this is a college boy who attended her school - how can you protect them from that? It just makes me heartsick. JMO
Well, ultimately teaching men that it's not ok to kill/assault/rape women would be a good start.

But since we all know that isn't going to be enough, we need to teach them to trust their gut instinct, EVERY TIME. And to heed my favorite quote of all time, by Maya Angelou: "When someone shows you who they really are, believe them, the first time." And we need to teach them that they don't have to be polite if they feel uncomfortable (for example, an elevator opens and there's only one man inside who she'd have to ride with...it's ok for her to say "I'll wait for the next one."). As Karen Kilgariff and Georgia Hardstark say, "F*ck politeness."

I know. I would never have re-read it because I already read it--never knowing anything was added. I figure with Heavy maybe it is due to the fact they always due the "five things to know" but I see it with other outlets as well. Media in general drives me a bit nuts  I think totally conflicting info might be even worse...

This is a really good point. People may disagree or agree but I thought that JP's dad in the JC case did as good as a parent could do. He expressed sympathy from the start, he never ever tried to defend his son or make excuses, yet he was there for him but not to get him out of trouble--or so it seemed. He attended in support of his son but not in excuse of his son.

I understand too here that his father may be in denial and it is natural, but your point is a good one--it shows a lack of understanding that this girl died, at least give your sympathy for that and then add the fact you feel your son is innocent...

Great point.

Edited to clarify.

so true about teaching our sons. however, it is deeply engrained in women in southern culture, from the age they are old enough to speak, to ALWAYS be "polite." i know this bc i was born and raised there. totally agree with you though, and i can only hope the times, they are a'changing.

Good example. JP's dad in the Jayme Closs case handled that impossible situation with dignity, imo. It can be done.

This is what I heard, with additional "rumored" details. I just have to shake my head that this kid would resort to such extreme measures.

Even before I spoke with someone who knows members of the family, I figured that there had to have been a romantic entanglement to shoot someone eight times. I also speculated that someone might have texted or called her to meet up at the bar or some other place late that night.

Then, perhaps, when the conversation didn't go the way that this kid wanted it to go, he resorted to using her as target practice. He has some serious mental problems, at the very least.

I suspect that his family might have the money to hire good lawyers for him, sort of like George Hugeley's family did when he beat Yeardley Love to death.

YES! This is exactly who I thought of when the details came out.
Didn’t he get off with a slap on the wrist?
This is MS, ‘son’, that won’t play here.

So he is only 5’7 looks like 67 inches that’s not including his puffy hair.

So sad ! I find the perps' dad despicable.
Please do not defend your son after he viciously murdered an innocent young woman.

Reminds me of the murder of Yeardley Love by George Huguely.
Horrific. Another family that defended their 'good son'. Even to the point of having a preteen female relative at the sentencing -- making sure the cameras caught her crying as they left the courtroom.
As if to say, "See what Yeardley did to this family ?"

Rest in peace, Ally.
Your right I remember this case didn’t he only get 23 years?
