Police have charged a Tennessee couple with capital murder in the death of a 1-year-old child at a Mississippi hotel.

News outlets report the child's mother, 18-year-old Kentavia Chapman, and her boyfriend, 37-year-old Pierre Jarrell, both of Memphis, are also charged with felony child abuse.

Police in Southaven, Mississippi, told news outlets they brought the murder charges Tuesday after receiving the child's toxicology reports from the Mississippi Forensic Laboratory. Authorities didn't elaborate on the results.

Police began investigating what they labelled a "suspicious death" at a Southaven Southern Inn & Suites on Sept. 25.
